En topptjenestemann i Hamas avsluttet brått et CNN-intervju lørdag etter at han ble spurt om terrororganisasjonen påtar seg ansvaret for dødsfallene til sivile palestinske drepte i krigen.
Hamas-medlem Osama Hamdan avsluttet plutselig intervjuet med CNN-korrespondent Jim Sciutto etter at han ble spurt om Hamas angret på angrepet på Israel den 7. oktober, som drepte hundrevis av israelske sivile – som tjenestemenn i Gazas helsedepartement sier at 40 000 palestinere, hovedsakelig sivile, har blitt drept i krigen.
Som svar anklaget Hamdan Sciutto, som rapporterte fra Tel Aviv, for å ta Israels parti i den tiår lange konflikten.
«Vel, det virker for meg at du gir israelerne rett til å drepe palestinere når du spør om vi angrer på det Israel har gjort,» sa Hamdan. «Du må forstå at Israel har drept palestinerne de siste 76 årene.»
De to gikk deretter tilbake da Hamdan anklaget Sciutto for kun å se konflikten gjennom «israelske øyne».
«Du så ikke israelerne drepe tusenvis av palestinere i løpet av disse 20 årene,» sa Hamdan og hevdet at Sciutto ikke var kjent med de tusenvis av palestinere som ble drept i krigene i 2008 og 2014 i Gaza.
«Egentlig var jeg her i 2014 og i 2008,» sa Sciutto, og la til at nettverket hadde dekket palestinske sivile dødsfall «ganske tett.»
«Det du sier er faktisk ikke sant. Jeg var her for begge disse konfliktene. Spørsmålet mitt er om Hamas påtar seg noe ansvar for dødsfallene til sitt eget folk i Gaza?» sa Sciutto.
Hamdan og Sciutto går frem og tilbake, og avskjærer hverandre gjentatte ganger mens CNN-korrespondenten prøver å få ham til å svare på spørsmålet sitt.
«Du kan ikke spørre og svare selv. Enten lar du meg svare, eller så kan du fullføre samtalepunktet selv,” svarer Hamdan, og sier til slutt til Sciutto: “Du vil bare lytte til deg selv og israelerne” før du avslutter intervjuet.
Konflikten startet 7. oktober etter at Hamas-ledede militanter angrep Sør-Israel, drepte rundt 1200 mennesker – de fleste av dem sivile – og tvang omtrent 250 gisler til Gaza.
Over 40 000 palestinere har blitt drept i Gaza siden krigen brøt ut for 10 måneder siden, sa territoriets helsedepartement forrige uke.
Israels offensiv har også såret 92 401 mennesker og fordrevet over 85 % av befolkningen fra hjemmene sine, sa departementet i Hamas-styrte Gaza.
Den skiller ikke mellom sivile og militante i sin avgift.
