En gang synonymt med sløsing med offentlige utgifter, har USAs Bradley Fighting Vehicle sett suksess på slutten av livet i de ukrainske frontlinjene, ettersom den tåler russisk brann mens den gir dødelige slag.
Det pansrede kjøretøyet ble opprinnelig utviklet på 1980-tallet og plaget med forsinkelser og et voksende budsjett, og har blitt høyt ansett i Ukraina, med Kiev som legger ut klipp av Bradleys som lett tar ut russiske stridsvogner når andre våpen har hatt problemer.
ukrainsk Pvt. Viktor Khamets er blant dem som har hyllet det amerikanskproduserte mobilvåpenet som en nødvendighet for å kjempe mot Russland, med soldaten som tatoverer bildet på armen hans.
«Det reddet livet mitt,» sa Khamets til Wall Street Journal om hvordan en Bradley beskyttet ham i fjor.
Khamets, en mekaniker, sa at enheten hans var inne i deres Bradley da den ble truffet av en russisk drone og skutt på av et helikopter.
Til tross for det intense angrepet, skjermet det 40 år gamle kjøretøyet, med kallenavnet Mavka, Khamets selskap, med andre soldater som delte lignende historier om Bradleys evne til å stride russisk ammunisjon.
Kjøretøyet ble en favoritt i Ukraina etter at USA leverte mer enn 300 Bradleys etter Russlands invasjon tidlig i 2022.
Med en vekt på nesten 28 tonn, er Bradley, kjent som «kamptaxien», raskere og manøvrerer slagmarken bedre enn de fleste stridsvogner på de ukrainske frontlinjene mens den er i stand til å frakte seks soldater.
Kjøretøyet er også utstyrt med en 25-millimeter kanon som er i stand til å skyte pansergjennomtrengende skudd og en guidet rakettkaster som kan desimere Moskvas panserflåte.
Mens Bradley vanligvis bare er ment å gi støtte til større, kraftigere stridsvogner, førte Ukrainas mangel på militære forsyninger til at Kiev utplasserte Bradleys i frontlinjen til overraskende suksess.
Det amerikanskproduserte kjøretøyet skapte overskrifter tidligere i år da opptak gikk viralt av Kyivs 47. mekaniserte brigade ved å bruke en Bradley for å ta ut en russisk T-90 pansret tank på nært hold i byen Stepove i Donetsk.
Til tross for suksessen i frontlinjen, har Ukrainas flåte av Bradleys slitt med å henge med ettersom krigen har pågått i mer enn to år, og kampene bare har blitt intensivert.
Den ukrainske regjeringen anslår at rundt 65 % av Bradley-ene har blitt tatt ut av drift i mai, ifølge WSJ.
Ytterligere Bradleys forventes å nå Ukraina etter at USA kunngjorde godkjenningen av en militærhjelpspakke på 250 millioner dollar til Ukraina tidligere denne måneden.
Amerikanske produsenter jobber for tiden med en ny generasjon pansrede kjøretøyer som forventes å overskygge Bradley, hvis egen urolige utvikling var fokus for HBO-komedien fra 1998, «The Pentagon Wars», med Kelsey Grammer i hovedrollen.
