Eks-NYPD-kommissær Ray Kelly advarte søndag om at landets største politiavdeling fortsatt «blødninger» ansatte og bør slå seg sammen med FBI for å ta kampen mot migrantgjengen Tren de Aragua.
«Problemet i NYPD nå er personell. De kan ikke ansette nok folk til å fylle ut folkene som drar. De opplever fortsatt blødninger,» sa Kelly, den lengst fungerende politikommisæren i avdelingens historie, på 770 WABC radios «The Cats Roundtable.»
Han sa at han doblet størrelsen på NYPDs gjengenhet for å slå ned på kjeltringer under hans 12 år lange regjeringstid som kommissær – men i dag er det ikke nok for slike trusler som den beryktede venezuelansk-baserte Tren-gjengen.
«Det som må gjøres er [creating] en arbeidsgruppe med NYPD som involverer FBI, sa Kelly.
Han sa at US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency dessverre er «ute av spillet» i New York City på grunn av «helligdomslovene» som hindrer bytjenestemenn i å samarbeide med dem om ulovlig immigrasjon og deportasjon.
Helligdomsloven «gjør New York City utrygg,» sa han til radioverten John Catsimatidis.
» sier jeg [team with] FBI fordi, jeg tror, de har interstatlig aktivitet fra denne gjengen, noe som gir dem jurisdiksjon, sa Kelly.
Posten har rapportert mye om hvordan Tren de Aragua har infiltrert New York og andre urbane områder i landet.
Gjengemedlemmene har utnyttet den amerikanske migrantkrisen og har hersket i og rundt tilfluktsrom for migranter, spesielt leiren på Randall’s Island utenfor Manhattan.
Kjeltringene terroriserer Gotham med mopedhetter, selger ulovlige våpen under selve nesen til private sikkerhetsvakter og driver sleske prostitusjonsringer i nabolag som plutselig er beleiret av de plyndrende migrantene.
Gjengen, som også selger en dødelig fentanylblanding kalt Tussi, eller «rosa kokain», har vokst så raskt at den har overveldet byens elitepolitistyrke, sier noen observatører.
Kellys kommentarer kommer ettersom NYPD også er fanget i en FBI-korrupsjonsundersøkelse som førte til tidligere politikommisær Edward Cabans avgang.
Ordfører Eric Adams ble i forrige uke tiltalt for bestikkelser og ledningssvindel.
Ingen har blitt anklaget for overtredelse i NYPD, og Adams nekter for at han begikk noen forbrytelser.
Verken NYPD eller ordførerens kontor svarte umiddelbart på Post-forespørsler om kommentar.
Kelly, som fungerte som kommissær for det amerikanske tollvesenet og i finansdepartementet under president Bill Clinton, hevdet at målet med Det demokratiske hvite husets i hovedsak åpne grensepolitikk «er å få flere velgere inn i landet».
