Den amerikanske sprinteren Kenny Bednarek anklager løpsledere for «favoritisme» over banetildelingene i 200 meter-finalen for menn ved OL i Paris 2024.
Bednarek, den verdensrangerte nr. 2 sprinteren bak landsmannen Noah Lyles, var misfornøyd med banetildelingen for torsdagens løp da han ble plassert borte fra de «foretrukne posisjonene.»
Bednarek vant sitt semifinaleløp med tiden 20.00, det nest raskeste av de siste kvalifiseringene,
«Kung Fu Kenny» skulle opprinnelig starte i bane 4 mens Lyles skulle kjøre i bane 5.
Amerikanske Erriyon Knighton og den botswanske løperen Letsile Tebogo ble plassert i henholdsvis bane 6 og 7.
De midterste 5-8 banene regnes som de foretrukne posisjonene for 200m, da de innvendige og utvendige banene har problemer med sikt rundt svingen.
«Aldri sett favorisering som dette på global skala,» sa Bednarek, den forsvarende olympiske sølvmedaljevinneren, i en innlegg på X.
Bednarek lanserte en protest om banetildelingene, og arrangører for å omdisponere banene.
Han ble flyttet til bane 8 etter protesten.
Lyles, Bednarek, Knighton og Tebogo er de topprangerte løperne i arrangementet, og de tre sistnevnte vant alle semifinalene sine på onsdag.
OL i PARIS 2024
Tebogo var den raskeste av alle tre semifinalene, og kom i mål på 19.96, etterfulgt av Bednarek (20.00) og Lyles (20.08) mens Knighton og Den dominikanske republikk-løper Alexander Ogando begge løp på 20.09.
Ogando løper nå i bane 4 etter at dommerne byttet ham og Bednarek.
World Athletics-funksjonærer fullfører tre separate trekninger for å bestemme banetildelingene i 200m-finalen.
200 m-finalen for menn går av stabelen klokken 14:30 Eastern Time.
