Mannen som er anklaget for å ha pløyet beruset inn i en neglesalong på Long Island i 78 miles per time og drept fire personer – inkludert en off-duty NYPD politimann – tenker tilsynelatende ikke mye på ofrene sine.
Under et 35-minutters eksklusivt fengselsintervju denne uken med The Post, tok ikke den selvsentrerte Steven Schwally opp betjent Emilia Rennhack og de tre salongarbeiderne som han meja ned i hendelsen 28. juni – før en reporter til slutt spurte hva han ville si til de sørgende familiene hvis de fikk sjansen.
Etter først å ha spurt en reporter om hvordan hun ville svare på spørsmålet, sa Schwally, 64, at han ville fortelle dem at han var «beklager» for skaden han forårsaket.
Han la raskt til: «Jeg liker ikke å tenke på det.»
Den treårige marineveteranen som er to ganger skilt, arbeidsledig og hjemløs sa at han husker førstehjelpspersonell som dro ham ut av førervinduet på Chevrolet Traverse etter at han krasjet den inn i Hawaii Nail & Spa i Deer Park, og husker å ha sett hvordan han ble knust. kjøretøyet hans var – men ingenting annet.
Selv om han erklærte seg ikke skyldig da han ble tiltalt for fire punkter av andregrads drap og andre siktelser, fortalte Schwally til The Post at han var «skyldig» under intervjuet ved Riverhead Correctional Facility, hvor han blir holdt for 1 million dollar i kausjon.
«Gåsen min er kokt,» sutret Schwally, som hadde på seg en gul fengselsdress og hadde en rullator i nærheten, om livet sitt. «Det er over for meg.»
Schwally innrømmet overfor The Post at han er alkoholiker. Han antas å ha drukket et par flasker Montebello Long Island iste før den sjokkerende hendelsen, som resulterte i ni andre skadet.
Han sa at dagene hans på utsiden vanligvis består av å våkne, kjøpe litt sprit, kjøre rundt lokalt og stoppe for å ringe.
Schwally fortalte politiet at han slo ned 18 øl og sluttet å drikke rundt klokken 03.00 dagen etter ulykken, har myndighetene sagt.
Schwally tilbrakte en uke på sykehuset i umiddelbar etterkant, og beklaget at han hadde blitt kraftig medisinert av fengselspersonalet og ikke kunne sove.
Schwally insisterte på at han ikke er «alltid full», og begynte egentlig ikke å drikke før for rundt 25 år siden.
Schwally ble truffet med en DWI-ladning i Dix Hills, NY, i 2013 da han knuste en postkasse. Han erkjente straffskyld og ble dømt til tre års prøvetid.
