YouTube har introdusert et utvidet sett med verktøy for å hjelpe bekymrede foreldre med å holde bedre oversikt over barnas nettaktivitet.
Oppmerksomme mødre og fedre vil nå kunne koble kontoer til barna sine, slik at de kan overvåke alt fra videoopplastinger til abonnementer og kommentarer.
«Når før-tenåringene dine vokser, kan interessene deres også gjøre det,» lyder ny veiledning fra nettstedet for sosiale medier, utgitt akkurat i tide til det nye skoleåret.
«YouTubes nye tilsynsalternativ hjelper deg å ha åpne samtaler med tenåringene dine når de begynner å lage og dele på YouTube for første gang,» heter det i direktivet.
For yngre tenåringer kan foreldre nå sette filtre som sikrer at de begrenser visningen til alderstilpasset innhold.
Unge barn kan også surfe på den nylig introduserte «YouTube Kids» separate app som lover «en tryggere og enklere opplevelse.»
Og selv om en forelder bokstavelig talt ikke ser seg over skuldrene, vil de fortsatt kunne regulere seervaner.
For de i alderen 13–17 år kan «ta-pause»-varsler settes hver time – sammen med sengetidspåminnelser kl. 22.00
Foreldre har også tilgang til en autoplay kill-bryter, som hindrer barn i å bli sugd inn i en endeløs videosløyfe.
Alle 17 og under vil også finne det vanskeligere å få tilgang til såkalt «problematisk» innhold – som inkluderer videoer «som viser sosial aggresjon og trusler.»
Nyheten kommer da Nielsen rapporterte at YouTube slo Disney ut som mediedistributør volummessig i juli måned.
En kjent YouTuber kunngjorde også nylig sin død postuum gjennom plattformen.
