En toppforhandler på Wall Street forlot en eliteinvesteringsbank i New York etter at sjefene hans fant ut at han angivelig hadde en affære med en yngre medarbeider på laget sitt, har The Post fått vite.
Adam Taetle trakk seg som senioradministrerende direktør i Evercore – firmaet grunnlagt av den dype partiets operatør Roger Altman – etter en HR-undersøkelse av forholdet, fortalte fire kilder nær situasjonen til The Post.
Den angivelig tilfeldige regnmakeren – en gift trebarnsfar – forlot firmaet under påstander om å «ha et seksuelt forhold til en kvinnelig junioransatt på laget hans,» sa en kilde.
Avgangen denne våren til Taetle, en seks år gammel veteran fra firmaet – nylig merket «Goldman North» i en Financial Times-artikkel som kroniserte suksessen – «var veldig plutselig,» sa en annen kilde til The Post.
En tredje bedriftsinsider – blant et halvt dusin som snakket med The Post om Taetles exit – bekreftet: «Det var definitivt en sky rundt ham som dro.»
Taetle landet raskt på beina, og begynte i det globale investeringsselskapet Lazard i juni, ifølge offentlige registre.
Evercore ble grunnlagt i 1995 av Altman etter at han forlot den første Clinton-administrasjonen et år tidligere på grunn av Whitewater-skandalen, der han angivelig tipset Clinton-familien om en forestående etterforskning av deres kjøp av en ranch i Arkansas.
Posten har ikke vært i stand til å bekrefte når det påståtte forholdet begynte mellom Taetle og den yngre kvinnen, som kilder sa ikke lenger er med i selskapet.
Den 55 år gamle bankmannen ble truffet med skilsmissepapirer i New Yorks høyesterett av sin kone, Andrea West Taetle, en borgerrettighetsadvokat, 10. november i fjor, ifølge rettsprotokollen.
Detaljer om skilsmissesaken deres er skjermet av New Yorks personvernlovgivning, som krever at ekteskapsinnleveringer holdes under segl. De to sidene nådde et forlik i juni, ifølge saksdokumentet. Kilder nær familien sa at deres splittelse vil bli avsluttet av retten i løpet av de kommende månedene.
Eiendomsregistre i New York viser at paret bodde i en stilig bygning i Manhattans trendy Tribeca-nabolag, hvor leiligheter jevnlig selges for 3 millioner dollar.
Jeffrey Zukerman, en advokat for Taetle, sa at påstandene om at han var involvert i en affære er «falske og absurde».
«Vi nekter dem på det sterkeste,» sa han til The Post, og insisterte på at Taetle bare hadde tatt en karrierepause for å tilbringe tid med familien.
En talsperson for Evercore sa: «Vi kommenterer ikke personalsaker.»
Etter at The Post først henvendte seg til Taetles nye arbeidsgiver for kommentar, Hazel Crampton-Hays, en tidligere pressesekretær for Govs. Kathy Hochul og Andrew Cuomo, fra krisekommunikasjonsfirmaet Risa Heller, svarte først på Taetles vegne.
Risa Heller, som nektet å kommentere, representerte Anthony Weiner under hans sexting-skam, så vel som eks-CNN-sjef Jeff Zucker da Page Six brøt den eksklusive historien om hans ulovlige forbindelser med nestleder Allison Gollust. Firmaet har også repetert Harvey Weinstein i 2015 da han ble siktet av Manhattan DA for å ha famlet etter en italiensk modell.
Tidligere medarbeidere beskrev Taetle, en MBA-utdannet fra Wharton, som «godt respektert» av sine jevnaldrende.
Men han ble også sett på som en tøff arbeidsleder som skremte noen ansatte med sin frekke og sløve lederstil, sa kilder.
«Han trengte ikke å bli likt. Han var en av sjefene, sa en kilde som er kjent med saken.
Et familiemedlem, som snakket på betingelse av anonymitet, sa at Taetle ble jobbet «til beinet» på kontoret.
En alun av Goldman Sachs og Barclays Capital, Taetle håndterte flere pengespinnende avtaler i forbruker- og detaljhandelssektoren i løpet av sin seks år lange periode hos Evercore. Disse inkluderer Campbell Soups oppkjøp av Sovos Brands for 2,7 milliarder dollar, samt Pinnacle Foods’ salg til Conagra Brands.
Hans forestående avgang fra Evercore ble rapportert 19. april av Reuters, med henvisning til folk som er kjent med saken.
Taetle forlot Evercore måneden etter, ifølge Linkedin-profilen hans.
Taetle begynte i Lazard i slutten av juni for å lede sin globale forbruker-, detaljhandels- og fritidsvirksomhet, ifølge en oppdatering på meglerprofilen hans på nettstedet til den amerikanske regulatoren FINRA.
Taetles utnevnelse med Lazard, ledet av tidligere president Barack Obamas engangsbudsjetttsar Peter Orszag, ble først rapportert av Bloomberg 5. juni. Det er uklart om hans nye sjefer var klar over omstendighetene der den stortjenende finansmannen forlot sin siste jobb.
En talskvinne for finansgiganten svarte ikke på The Posts flere forespørsler om kommentar.
Mike Long, en administrerende direktør i Taetles team hos Evercore, skulle angivelig følge ham til Lazard, rapporterte Bloomberg. Long vil gi råd om M&A-avtaler som involverer forbrukerforhandlere. Hans FINRA-profil viser at han ennå ikke har tiltrådt sin nye stilling.
