LL Flooring, den en gang formidable gulvvarekonkurrenten til Home Depot, tidligere kjent som Lumber Liquidators, stenger alle sine butikker bare uker etter at de har begjært konkurs.
Den 30 år gamle jernvarebutikken, som en gang drev over 400 butikker i USA, sa at den bestemte seg for å avvikle etter at flere forhandlinger ikke ga det «beste tilbudet for selskapet.»
«LL Flooring har jobbet hardt for å forfølge et fortsatt salg av selskapet og har aktivt forhandlet med flere budgivere. Disse diskusjonene har ikke resultert i et tilbud, med nødvendig finansiering, som vil maksimere verdien av LL Flooring,» sa selskapet i en oppdatering om sin restruktureringsplan.
«I henhold til kapittel 11-reglene er selskapet pålagt å oppnå det høyeste eller på annen måte beste tilbudet for selskapets virksomhet eller eiendeler, og i dette tilfellet ble det bestemt at et salg av selskapets individuelle eiendeler, holde stengesalg i våre butikker og avvikling ned vil virksomheten levere mest verdi til kreditorene.»
LL Flooring sier at det startet en «ordnet avvikling av driften» uken 3. september med stengesalg i alle gjenværende butikker som startet 6. september.
Stengingsprosessen forventes å være fullført om 12 uker, men stengingene vil variere fra butikk til butikk.
LL Flooring begjærte Kapittel 11 konkurs 11. august og startet «frivillig restruktureringsoperasjon.»
Rapporter om en forestående konkurs hadde pågått siden juli, da selskapets salg hadde falt jevnt de siste årene – sannsynligvis på grunn av en nedskjæring i forbruksutgiftene på oppussing av boliger blant høye renter og sta inflasjon.
LL Flooring Holdings Inc.-aksjen har falt fra 84 cent til 2 cent siden kapittel 11-innleveringen.
Kunder som har gjort bestillinger vil få installasjonene oppfylt innen 30 dager, men selskapet slutter å tilby installasjoner etter 6. september.
De som har bestilt og betalt depositum vil ikke lenger være kvalifisert for kansellering og refusjon da alle salg er endelige etter 6. september, delte butikken.
«Vi har vært stolte av å betjene kundene våre gjennom årene og takker deg igjen for din virksomhet og henvendelse til oss for dine gulvbehov,» skrev administrerende direktør Charles Tyson til kundene.
Lumber Liquidators – grunnlagt av Tom Sullivan i 1994 – skiftet navn til LL Flooring i 2021 etter at selskapet kom under ild i en «60 Minutes»-undersøkelse i 2015.
En sonde fant at store mengder av leverandørens gulv kom fra Kina og inneholdt høye nivåer av kreftfremkallende formaldehyd.
Selskapet gikk med på å betale regulatorer 33 millioner dollar i 2019 for å betale føderale avgifter angående sikkerheten til laminatgulvet.
LL Flooring er det siste selskapet som sliter på grunn av vedvarende inflasjon og kontantbegrensede kunder.
I juli kunngjorde Bob’s Stores, den elskede butikken som hadde kledd familier over hele nordøst i 70 år, at den ville stenge dørene permanent på alle sine lokasjoner i USAs siste detaljhandelskade.
De 21 stedene i hele Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York og Rhode Island ble permanent lukket 14. juli.
