En pensjonist har nådd 100-årsdagen sin til tross for at hun røyket 20 sigaretter om dagen i det meste av livet hennes – mens legene hyller hennes «klare lunger og hjertelyd som en bjelle».
Mary ‘Molly’ Repper, som først ga opp vanen i en alder av 95 år, fikk selskap på Weston View Care Home i Moray i Skottland av familie og venner for å feire.
Både datteren Beatrice og sønnen Jim hadde reist opp til Keith fra London onsdag 6. september med sine respektive partnere for morens store dag.
«Hurtig», «utholdende» og «organisert» var noen av setningene de brukte for å beskrive hvordan Molly hadde vært gjennom sitt lange liv.
Beatrice sa: «Mamma var strålende med tall.
«I en kasse kunne hun legge opp tallene raskere i hodet enn kassereren på kassen – og de ville garantert fått vite om det hvis de hadde tatt feil beløp.»
Jim sa: «Vi fryktet det verste da mamma falt og brøt hoften for fem år siden, men hun kjempet tilbake.
«Hun har røyket siden hun var ung, men legene som behandlet henne sa at lungene hennes var klare og hjertet hennes var like lyd som en bjelle.»
Molly ble født 4. september 1924 i Peterculter nær Aberdeen.
Hun møtte George, hennes eventuelle ektemann, før starten av andre verdenskrig.
Imidlertid ble ikke paret sammen som et par før etter at konflikten var over.
George, sønn av en politimann, hadde vokst opp i London, men i 1934 reiste han opp til Aberdeen for et jobbintervju.
Da han fant sin potensielle arbeidsgivers forretningssted stengt for lunsj, bestemte han seg for å ta en tur opp Union Street, hvor han møtte en rekrutteringssersjant fra Scots Guards som overtalte ham til å bli med.
Han var en militær stamgjest og ble sendt til Nord-Afrika etter at krigen brøt ut i 1939.
Han ble tatt til fange av den italienske hæren i løpet av 1942, og ble internert som krigsfange.
Etter at Italia byttet side året etter, klarte George imidlertid å rømme.
Deretter tilbrakte han de neste seks månedene på flukt i Italia før han ble gjenfanget, denne gangen av nazistene.
George ble sendt til en fangeleir i Tyskland hvor han ble fengslet til slutten av krigen.
Molly giftet seg med George i 1947 og paret dro for å bo i London, hvor han fulgte i fotsporene til sin far ved å bli med i politistyrken.
Hun gjorde i mellomtiden en rekke forskjellige jobber, inkludert skolebursar og jobbet som medisinsk sekretær.
Paret flyttet til slutt opp på denne måten i 1973 etter at George trakk seg tilbake fra styrken.
Tilfeldigvis kom de til å bo på den tidligere politistasjonen i Knock.
George var mer enn seks år eldre enn Molly.
Med tiden begynte helsen hans å forverres, noe som førte til at paret flyttet til skjermet bolig ved Taylor Court i Keith i løpet av 1980-tallet.
Her tok Molly seg av ham til han døde i 2002.
Molly har fem barnebarn – Michael, Daniel, Louise, Alice og George.
Hun har også fem oldebarn – James, Matthew, Eliza, Ari og Dimo-James – noen av dem bor i Bulgaria.
