En ladd pistol avfyrte flere skudd inne i et Virginia-hjem etter at noen uforsiktig oppbevarte skytevåpenet i hjemmets ovn.
«VENNLIGST IKKE OPPBEVAR VÅPEN ELLER NOE I OVNEN DIN,» advarte Chesterfield County Fire and EMS medlemmer i et Facebook-innlegg som beskrev ulykken fredag.
Avdelingen sa at brannmenn reagerte på en husbrann torsdag kveld etter at huseieren rapporterte at hjemmets ovn hadde eksplodert.
Ved ankomst til boligen åpnet brannvesenet ovnen og fant en pistol smeltet til stålristene.
«Det viser seg at noen slo på ovnen med pistolen inni, våpenet ble varmet opp, og fem skudd gikk av,» skrev Chesterfield Fire og EMS.
Heldigvis ble ingen skadet, men Chesterfield County Fire og EMS delte at «situasjonen kunne ha blitt mye annerledes.»
Et bilde av det forkullede håndvåpenet smeltet inn i stålristene inne i overdelen viser at løpet pekte enten mot ovnens glassdør eller baksiden.
Et annet bilde viser glasset i ovnsvinduet knust i stykker.
Avdelingen avklarte ikke hvilken retning pistolen var vendt da den gikk av.
«Når du plasserer en gjenstand i ovnen er det lett å glemme at den er der, noe som kan føre til brann eller noe verre når du slår den på,» skrev Chesterfield County Fire and EMS.
«Du bør også sørge for å oppbevare skytevåpnene dine på riktig måte. Hold dem et sikkert sted, som en våpensafe.»
Kuler må nå rundt 400 grader før de spontant kan slippe ut av seg selv, ifølge Online Texas LTC, et skytevåpenopplæringskurs.
Statistikk viser at opptil 43 % av husholdningene i USA har ladede våpen, og halvparten av disse husholdningene klarer ikke å lagre dem i låste beholdere, noe som utgjør en sikkerhetsrisiko, ifølge CDC.
Våpeneiere bør oppbevare skytevåpnene sine i våpensafer eller låsebokser og bruke kabellåser og avtrekkerlåser for den sikreste oppbevaringen.
