En sykepleier som angivelig ble drept av naboen i Oregon bare to uker etter at hun giftet seg, hadde planer om å flytte ut for å være sammen med sin langdistansemann i delstaten Washington, fortalte familien hennes.
Politiet fant levningene til Melissa Jubane (32) fredag kveld etter et tre dager langt søk som endte i arrestasjonen av hennes 27 år gamle nabo, Bryce Johnathan Schubert, som ble siktet for andregradsdrap.
Den nygifte ble meldt savnet onsdag etter å ha unnlatt å møte opp til morgenskiftet på St. Vincent Hospital i Southwest Portland. Kollegene hennes ba om en velværesjekk av henne, men politiet fant ingen tegn til henne i leiligheten hennes.
Jubane giftet seg med ektemannen Bryan Llantero fra Hawaii på øya Honolulu 24. august og hadde nettopp returnert til Oregon før hun forsvant.
De nygifte møttes først på Hawaii og datet i over et tiår, og fløy frem og tilbake for å se hverandre. Llantero hadde sist hørt fra sin nye kone morgenen hun ble borte, ifølge KHON.
Jubane ville bli i Oregon-leiligheten sin på grunn av dens nærhet til arbeidsplassen hennes mens Llantero bodde i staten Washington med Melissas familie, fortalte svigermoren Imelda Llantero til den lokale nyhetsstasjonen.
Men etter å ha knyttet båndet, planla Jubane å se etter en jobb i Washington slik at hun kunne bo sammen med sin nye ektemann, sa Imelda Llantero.
Siden hennes påståtte drap har familiemedlemmer tatt til sosiale medier for å gå inn for rettferdighet og bevare hennes minne.
Jax Marquez, en av Jubanes søskenbarn, har vendt seg til å dedikere deler av sosiale medier til henne, inkludert å endre profilbildet hennes til å lese «Justice for #melissajubane».
«Hun har den søteste sjelen i verden, og jeg ønsket å være i stand til å skape et rom for de som hadde noen interaksjoner med henne, de som kjente henne, hadde virkelig nære forhold til henne, bare alle som har gode minner om henne.» sa Marquez i et innlegg på Instagram.
Jubanes far uttrykte også sitt hjertesorg på nettet.
«Jeg har så vondt akkurat nå for deg, datteren min Melissa Jubane. Som lovet av Beaverton Police Authorities til oss, vil din rettferdighet skje snart,» skrev Valentin Jubane, Melissas far, i et innlegg på Facebook.
«Jeg stoler på vår Gud, den allmektige, og hans eneste sønn, vår Herre Gud Jesus Kristus. Du er elsket av så mange gode mennesker rundt om i verden.»
En annen av Melissas fettere, Onilobes Allan, oppfordret politikere til å beskytte potensielle ofre mot dårlige skuespillere.
«[…] vår regjering trenger[s] å beskytte [people like Melissa] så vi kan ha en sjanse til å leve i fred og ha lykke i verden, men ble dessverre utnyttet og ble drept av en som er veldig ond. Jeg ber regjeringen lage lover som beskytter gode borgere», skrev han i et innlegg på Facebook.
