Nord-Korea lanserte en ny bølge av «søppelballonger» mot sine sørlige naboer onsdag kveld, ifølge lokale medier.
Sør-Koreas nyhetsbyrå Yonhap rapporterte at Norden skjøt opp mer enn 160 ballonger som fraktet søppel over den sørlige grensen.
Rapporten siterte Sør-Koreas Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) som sa at de oppdaget dusinvis av «søppelbunter» som inneholder papir, plastflasker og annet husholdningsavfall i deler av Gyeonggi-provinsen, som omgir hovedstaden i Seoul.
Tidligere denne måneden sa JCS at de hadde oppdaget rundt 420 ballonger som nord angivelig hadde skutt inn i Sør-Korea.
Søppelbunten er den siste puppen mellom de to Koreaene, som har drevet med taktikk i kald krigsstil siden tidligere i år, der nord har fløyet tusenvis av ballonger mot sør, fylt med avfallspapir, tøyrester, sigarettsneiper og til og med gjødsel.
Nord-Korea sier at ballongene er en gjengjeldelse mot sørkoreanske sivile aktivister som flyr anti-nordkoreanske propagandablader over grensen.
Søppel båret av minst en nordkoreansk ballong falt på den sørkoreanske presidenten i juli, noe som vekker bekymring for sårbarheten til sentrale sørkoreanske anlegg. Tjenestemenn sa at ballongen ikke inneholdt farlige materialer og at ingen ble skadet.
Sør-Korea har gjengjeldt med frontlinjehøyttalere for å sprenge propagandameldinger og K-pop-sanger mot nord.
