En ukrainsk drone, sendt på bombekjøring for å drepe en russisk soldat, ga i stedet hjelp til fienden før han tok ham som fange.
Hunket ned i en grøft under en jordbue, overlevde russeren fem separate granateksplosjoner som ble falt av dronen, under det som antas å være en sensommerdag på en slagmark i Donbas-regionen i det østlige Ukraina.
Ved retur til slagmarken oppdager dronen – bemannet av K-2-bataljonen til den ukrainske hærens 54. brigade – den russiske soldaten som ligger på ryggen, hendene sammen, og ber om at livet hans skal reddes, ifølge dramatiske opptak delt til sosiale medier .
«Vår tilbake etter omlasting, så vår pilot at okkupanten ønsket å overgi seg», sto det i videoteksten.
Piloten, som så bønnene, slapp den dødelige ammunisjonen.
Soldaten begynte å bevege seg i «feil» retning, og tvang dronepiloten til å blokkere banen hans.
Den «utmattede fienden» kollapset og begynte å tigge om vann da han ikke kunne gå lenger.
Dronepiloten slapp en flaske vann og en lapp, da den russiske jagerflyen gjorde et korstegn, takket dronen for å ha spart livet hans og gitt vannet.
«Følg dronen på toppen av skyttergravene,» sto det i lappen.
Soldaten fulgte dronen ut av slagmarken, falt flere ganger for å hvile, og ba til og med om en røykpause.
På et tidspunkt skjøt kampkameratene på ham mens han hvilte.
«Russens vei gjennom et åpent felt. I den stanset soldatene våre gjentatte ganger fiendens offensiver og ødela kjøretøy, sa bataljonen.
Dronen førte til slutt jagerflyet til en skyttergrav, der ukrainske soldater fanget «fiendens stormtrooper».
