Det rocker!
En ny 360-graders skylineattraksjon ved Rockefeller Center vil garantert bringe deg et skritt – eller noen hundre – over resten.
Top of the Rock avduket sin splitter nye Skylift-tur – en fantastisk stigende sirkulær plattform som driver opptil 13 ryttere 900 fot i luften. Attraksjonen, som åpnet tirsdag på toppen av observasjonsdekket i 70. etasje, gir forsiktig snurrende, uovertruffen klar utsikt over Big Apple og utover.
Rytterne går inn i en omtrent 6 fot høye innhegning med glasspanel som sitter på et stativ som spiller et fargerikt LED-lysshow. Innhegningen stiger sakte opp og snurrer mot himmelen på det lagdelte stativet, så det ser ut som en kikkert-teleskopåpning. Turen varer 3½ minutt.
Skylift er et tillegg på $35 til den vanlige inngangsprisen, som varierer fra $75 til $96. Det er også inkludert i attraksjonens $190 VIP-pakke. Bilder og videoer kan kjøpes for ytterligere $40.
De britiske innbyggerne Jason og Arlene Williams giftet seg i Big Apple på tirsdag, og de smilende nygifte var blant dem på nett for en tur da Skylift åpnet.
«Vi kan ikke vente,» sa den smokingkledde brudgommen til The Post.
Den franske turisten Nathalie Mary, en lojal Top of the Rock-beskytter som har besøkt under alle seks turene hennes til New York, hyllet turen for å være en one-stop-shop med utsikt.
«Du trenger bare å gå rundt en gang for å se alt, i stedet for å gå rundt i de forskjellige områdene på observasjonsdekket,» sa hun til The Post. «Alle bildene dine kan tas på [Skylift] og jeg elsker det.»
Pariseren la også merke til bedre utsikt over Central Park når han så nordover. Representanter fra Rockefeller Center sa at Skylift også kan sees på bakkenivå fra Sheep Meadow i parken.
Skylift er én etasje høyere enn den 10 måneder gamle søsterattraksjonen, Beam, en friluftstur som reiser folk på en stålbjelke som på det ikoniske bildet fra 1932 «Lunch Atop a Skyscraper».
Men hvis Beam er ment å være nærmere en spennende tur, tenk på Skylift som mer en karusell som spiller popmusikk.
Et hode i skyene
Mens det er en jevn tur, har Skylift en smule dramatikk – siden ryttere kan kikke ned gjennom de gjennomsiktige gulvene under 900 fots oppstigning.
Det er noen risting under spinnene og vinden presser seg gjennom separasjoner i glasspaneler, men det er ikke noe å svette over. Førstegangsrytteren Holcombe Hardin, en 11-åring fra Tennessee, var enig, selv om han først var bekymret for høyden.
«Det var ganske kult … og jeg følte meg definitivt trygg der oppe,» sa han til The Post.
«Det var også veldig gøy å gå rundt plattformen mens den beveget seg. Du bør gjøre det hvis du får sjansen.»
Den spente tweens mor, Elizabeth Hardin, 37, berømmet også turen for å være en virvelvindopplevelse på himmelen.
Etter å ha besøkt Empire State Building dagen før, hadde Top of the Rock hard konkurranse.
«I Empire State Building kan du se alle tingene, men ikke på samme tid,» sa Hardin til The Post.
«Du får ikke uhindret utsikt som dette veldig ofte.»
