Noen har plaget de rike i California.
Med noen få dagers mellomrom bærer en mystisk figur i maske og latekshansker flasker med urin til et velstående nabolag, arrangerer dem forsiktig på en bruksboks og forsvinner så ut i natten.
Kjent som «Piss Bandit», de siste seks årene har han satt sitt preg på Pasadena med brusflasker, juicekartonger og til og med gallonkanner fulle til randen med gul væske.
Ingen kjenner identiteten hans, og han håner lokalbefolkningen med notater og tegninger skrevet på flaskene hans: «menneskelig urin», grove smilefjes, eller noen ganger «hiv-positive».
Piss Bandit slår noen ganger flere ganger i uken med flasker som dukker opp om morgenen og forsvinner om kvelden.
Den bisarre oppførselen har pågått så lenge at runde ringer har blitt etset inn i malingen på bruksboksen.
Byen utstyrte esken med et spiss metalldeksel i et forsøk på å stoppe strømmen, men banditten rev den rett og slett av og etterlot en ny mengde flasker for deres problemer.
«Det har vært en dragkamp mellom nabolaget og denne fyren,» sa Grant Yasura, som startet en månedslang etterforskning av den skyldige sammen med sin partner, filmskaperen Derek Milton.
Den første videoen av etterforskningen deres fikk mer enn 600 000 visninger på TikTok. For Milton og Yasura er ikke banditten en motbydelig vandal, men en årvåken artist – en Robin Hood-figur som har gjort byen Pasadena til sin Lille John.
«Hans dedikasjon til håndverket hans er det som fascinerte oss,» sa Yasura til Posten.
Men for nabolaget – en oase av dyre hjem, svømmebassenger og nøye velstelte plener – er banditten en trussel nummer én.
«Jeg syntes det var ekkelt. Jeg har aldri betraktet det som en kunstform på noen måte, sier Oscar Laguna, som eide et hus i nærheten av gjerningsmannens anløpssted frem til februar.
En annen nabo la ut et håndskrevet notat til banditten: «Hvis jeg tar deg i å forlate pisset ditt her, vil jeg få deg til å drikke hver siste dråpe! … Du har blitt advart!
Milton og Yasura brant etter svar og staket ut slippstedet, men motivet deres viste seg aldri. Da de installerte et infrarødt viltkamera i nærheten av boksen, viste tisserull-opptakene bandittens latekshanskede hånd strekke seg over en barrierevegg og plassere flaskene, én etter én, som stearinlys på en kake.
Deretter la de igjen en lapp til banditten: «Jeg er en stor fan av installasjonskunsten din … jeg tror arbeidet ditt er på samme nivå som Banksy + Shepard Fairy.» Notatet fulgte med en markør og intervjuspørsmål som han kunne svare på.
Ikke alle var enige. Mens de staket ut stedet, stoppet en mann, rykende, og spurte hvorfor paret hypet ham opp i stedet for å prøve å stille ham for retten. «Han sa,» Slutt å gjøre det morsomt! Gjør noe med det!’» sa Uakasura til Posten. «Men hva vil de at jeg skal gjøre med det å kaste et nett på ham?»
Banditten selv ser ikke ut til å bry seg om sine egne fans. Ikke bare ignorerte han notatet deres, men han stjal kameraet deres. Senere sendte kameraet noe til Miltons skylagringskonto: en fantastisk utsikt over havet som metadata identifisert som Sunset Cliffs, San Diego – 126 miles fra pisseboksen.
Bandittens neste flaskedråpe inkluderte en full en-liters kanne med en tegning av et demonisk ansikt. «Han var på offensiven og lekte med oss,» sa Milton i en video.
Til slutt plasserte TikTok-sleuthene enda et kamera ved siden av, denne gangen med en taleintercom-funksjon. Men banditten ignorerte deres forsøk på å kommunisere og stjal ganske enkelt det kameraet også.
Etter det bestemte paret seg for å skylle saken.
«Hans dedikasjon til håndverket hans er det som fascinerte oss,» og vi ønsket å vite hvorfor. Men vi innså at han ikke vil fortelle oss hvorfor, sa Yasura. «Noen ganger må du bare la en artist tisse.»
