En ufølsom angriper ble slått torsdag for å ha slått ut en 81 år gammel kvinne i et tilfeldig overfall på Upper West Side forrige måned, sa politiet.
Hansel Esparragoza, 37 – bosatt i Staten Island med 21 tidligere arrestasjoner – ble siktet for grovt overgrep i 13. september fanget-på-video-angrepet på Geula Freeman ved West 66th Street og Amsterdam Avenue, sa myndighetene.
Esparragoza hadde rufsete ansiktshår og hadde på seg en lysegrønn T-skjorte, svarte joggebukser og gummisko da detektiver ledet den mistenkte med håndjern ut av inngangsdøren til det 20. distriktet og inn i en ventende politibil torsdag.
Han nektet å svare på spørsmål om, eller hvorfor, han slo kvinnen.
Esparragoza ble sist arrestert i august for småtyveri, og i juli for å ha opptrådt på en måte som var skadelig for et barn – både i Staten Island, sa politiet og kilder.
Opptak av angrepet på Freeman, innhentet av Fox 5, viser bruten først gå forbi offeret mens hun gikk sin sønns Goldendoodle.
Øyeblikk senere snudde han seg og ga meningsløst et slag mot høyre side av kvinnens ansikt, viser videoen.
Det plutselige angrepet slo Freeman bevisstløs i bakken, ifølge politiet og opptakene.
Hun fikk ansikts- og hodeskader og ble ført til Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital for behandling, sa politiet.
«Jeg har hukommelsestap, jeg husker ikke engang hva som hadde skjedd,» sa Freeman tidligere til The Post om angrepet. «Bortsett fra at jeg har ansiktet og kroppen [bruises] å føle det.»
«Jeg ble fortalt at jeg mistet bevisstheten og at jeg hadde hjernerystelse,» fortsatte hun.
Freeman sa at hun ikke trodde hun ble målrettet av skurken, men vil at han skal få hjelp.
«Jeg tar det ikke personlig, det var tilfeldig, ingen ønsket egentlig å gjøre det bare mot meg. Jeg tar det ikke personlig, sa Freeman.
Likevel sa det eldre offeret, som har bodd på Upper West Side siden 2007 og besøker Lincoln Center, at hun siden har blitt mer våken når hun krysser Big Apple.
«Det var en slik overraskelse fordi det ble beskrevet for meg hvordan det skjedde at jeg ikke ville ha vært i stand til å gjøre noe,» sa hun om angrepet.
«Men nå ser jeg i det minste ut hvem som kommer mot meg og ikke å være for nærme folk, og som de siste to dagene når jeg ser folk litt utenfor, så sørger jeg bare for at jeg er litt litt langt unna dem, så jeg er veldig på vakt.»
