Phillies’ Game 1-tap mot Mets har forårsaket minst én sammensmelting blant Philly-mediene.
NBC Sports Philadelphias Michael Barkann knuste Phillies fullstendig under nettverkets postgame-show på lørdag, og viste en forakt for de som ikke presterte bra og ga opp best-av-fem NLDS, og kalte 6-2-tapet «en skam.»
«Med mindre Phillies flyr i møte med historien, er denne serien over,» sa Barkann. «Phillies har aldri vunnet en serie etter å ha tapt den første kampen. Ikke en gang, 0-7. Ikke klandre Rob Thomson for denne, ikke klandre Kevin Long, ikke klandre Kyle Schwarber og jammen skyld ikke på studen, Zach Wheeler.
«Men [Trea] Turner, [Bryce] Harper, [Nick] Castellanos, [Alec] Bohm, [Bryson] Stott, [J.T.] Realmuto, [Brandon] Marsh, [Johan] Rojas, [Jeff] Hoffman, [Matt] Strahm, [Orion] Kerkering, [Tanner] Banker? Ta en fottur. Dere burde skamme dere.»
Kampen kunne ikke ha startet mye bedre for Phillies, da Schwarber slo et startskudd mot den overraskende Mets-starteren Kodai Senga, som bare gjorde én opptreden hele sesongen på grunn av arm- og leggskader.
Men Mets, ledet av David Petersons tre sterke omganger, stengte Phillies-flaggermusene til Ryne Stanek ga opp et meningsløst løp i den niende.
Da Wheeler, som ga opp ett treff og fire gange med ni strikeouts, til slutt forlot kampen etter syv omganger, slo Mets-angrepet til, som det ofte har gjort i det sene omgangen under deres mirakelløp mot Braves og Brewers.
De scoret fem løp av Hoffman og Strahm i den åttende og slo på en annen i den niende.
Turner, Bohm og Marsch gikk 0-for-4 hver.
