Spirit Airlines-aksjene steg med så mye som 65 % på mandag etter at lavprisflyselskapet inngikk en avtale om å forlenge gjeldsrefinansieringsplanen med to måneder.
Avtalen med US Bank National Association om å forskyve fristen – som var satt til å løpe ut mandag – til 21. desember gir Spirit et slingringsmonn til å refinansiere sine lojalitetsobligasjoner på 1,1 milliarder dollar som skal forfalle neste år.
Det Florida-baserte flyselskapet sa at det fullt ut har trukket ned sin rullerende kredittfasilitet på 300 millioner dollar og forventer å avslutte året med mer enn 1 milliard dollar i likviditet.
«Spirit må forholde seg til tidspunktet for gjeldsbetaling og endre størrelsen på den faste kostnadsstrukturen, og det er fortsatt uklart om dette kan fullføres med/uten kapittel 11,» sa Savanthi Syth, analytiker hos Raymond James.
I en regulatorisk innlevering sa Spirit at den fortsatt er i «aktive og konstruktive diskusjoner» med obligasjonseierne om kommende forfall.
Spirit og US Bank svarte ikke umiddelbart på forespørsler om kommentarer.
Spirit slet med å konkurrere i en overfylt bransje da passasjerer returnerte til sommerreiser med full kraft i år.
Lavprisflyselskapet ble også rammet av kollapsen av fusjonen på 3,8 milliarder dollar med JetBlue Airways, som selskapene avbrøt i mars etter at de tapte et antitrustsøksmål.
Spirit lukket opp 53%, til $2,25.
Til tross for økningen, er Spirit-aksjene ned nesten 90 % i år, sammenlignet med en samlet økning på 33 % i S&P 500 Passenger Airlines-indeksen over dette tidsrommet.
Selskapet har ikke klart å gå med overskudd i fem av de siste seks kvartalene.
I likhet med andre lavprisflyselskaper har Spirit annonsert planer om å tilby førsteklasses seter i et siste forsøk på å vinne tilbake penger med penger.
I august introduserte Spirit fire nye nivåer – Go Big, Go Comfy, Go Savvy og Go – samt forbedrede passasjerfordeler, som prioritert innsjekking og økt vektveiledning for sjekkbag.
Spirit har satt sikte på å kutte kostnader ved å nedgradere rundt 100 kapteiner, tilby ubetalt frivillig permisjon til flyvertinner og stoppe ansettelsen og opplæringen av nye piloter og flyvertinner.
Flyselskapet har tidligere kunngjort sine planer om å permittere rundt 240 piloter og utsette Airbus-leveranser.
Spirit var et av flyselskapene som ble hardest rammet av en RTX-motordefekt som tvang det til bakkeflyvninger, noe som bidro til dets økonomiske problemer.
RTXs Pratt & Whitney kunngjorde i 2023 at mer enn 1000 av motorene måtte fjernes fra Airbus-flyene og sjekkes for mikroskopiske sprekker.
Spirit forventes å avslutte 2025 med rundt 67 fly på bakken, sammenlignet med gjennomsnittet 20.
