Omtrent én av fem mennesker vil utvikle kreft i løpet av livet. Mens mange faktorer, som alder og familiehistorie, er utenfor vår kontroll, vi kan redusere kreftrisikoen med et sunt kosthold.
Frie radikaler, reaktive kjemikalier som skader cellene våre, antas å bidra til kreftutvikling. Antioksidanter beskytter kroppen mot de skadelige effektene av frie radikaler ved å styrke cellulær funksjon og redusere oksidativt stress.
Eksperter foreslår å få mett antioksidant fra mat, med Mindbodygreen denne uken som fremhever fordelene med lykopen, resveratrol, lutein, zeaxanthin og vitamin A.
Lykopen
Lykopen er en antioksidant som ofte finnes i tomater – det har vist seg å forhindre celleskade og gi utallige fordeler for kroppen, inkludert, men ikke begrenset til, å bidra til å forbedre sædcellene.
Når det gjelder kreft, har lykopen vist seg å potensielt undertrykke tumorvekst og sykdomsprogresjon.
Lykopen er medlem av karotenoidfamilien, en gruppe pigmenter som finnes i gresskar, tomater, gulrøtter og paprika. Karotenoider gir oransje, rød og gul plantemat sin lyse farge og beskytter dem også mot oksidativt stress.
Karotenoidtette matvarer bør inntas hud-på, da de viktigste mengdene finnes i det ytre dekselet.
Disse fargerike antioksidantene støtter øyehelsen og har vist seg å beskytte mot tykktarms-, lunge-, bryst- og prostatakreft.
Resveratrol
Per The Post har resveratrol, en naturlig polyfenol som finnes i mørke bær, druer, rødvin, peanøtter og pistasjnøtter, blitt utpekt som en måte å beskytte seg mot kreft, hjertesykdom og slag.
Ifølge forskning bekjemper resveratrol kreftceller ved å aktivere eller deaktivere molekylære veier.
Lutein og zeaxanthin
Karotenoider lutein og zeaxanthin, som finnes i eggeplommen av kyllingegg, har vist seg å redusere risikoen for grå stær og makuladegenerasjon, de viktigste årsakene til blindhet hos personer 55 og eldre.
Når det gjelder kreftforebygging, fant en studie fra 2019 at deltakere med høyest inntak av lutein og zeaxanthin hadde den laveste risikoen for tykktarmskreft.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A er et essensielt fettløselig mikronæringsstoff som støtter hud- og øyehelsen og beskytter cellene mot skade.
Næringsstoffet har vist seg å bidra til å beskytte mot brystkreft, mens en diett rik på vitamin A har vært knyttet til en lavere risiko for plateepitelkarsinom, en vanlig form for hudkreft.
Ytterligere forskning har vist at et vitamin A-derivat kan forbedre strålebehandlingens tumor-drepende effektivitet.
Vitamin A finnes i fisk, bifflever, meieriprodukter og egg.
