«Jeg sa: ‘Velgere i Michigan ønsker akkurat nå en måte å støtte deg på, men vi kan ikke gjøre det uten en politikkendring som redder liv i Gaza akkurat nå… Vil du møte oss for å snakke om en våpenembargo?»
Lederne for den uengasjerte nasjonale bevegelsen var blant dem som ble invitert til å ønske Harris og Walz velkommen til Michigan i en fotolinje onsdag.
Elabed sa da at den demokratiske presidentkandidaten gikk med på å møte gruppen.
«Hun sa ja, jeg skal møte deg. Og jeg forstår at når hun gikk med på å møte meg, gikk hun ikke med på en våpenembargo, hun gikk med på å diskutere en våpenembargo og diskutere en politikk som vil redde liv nå i Gaza og forhåpentligvis få oss til et punkt der vi kan legger vår støtte bak VP Harris,” forklarte Elabed.
Fellow Uncommitted Movement-grunnlegger Abbas Alawieh bekreftet Elabeds beretning om Harris’ avtale om å møte – og hevdet også at ledere fra Det demokratiske partiet viste sympati med deres ønske om en våpenembargo.
«Mens vi var backstage, før vi fikk kontakt med visepresident Harris, snakket vi med den ene partilederen etter den andre og sa til dem: «Hør her, hvis det var familien din som levde under bombene, ville vi forvente at du ville ønsker at vår kandidat skal ha en policy for å stoppe sendingen av bomber for å drepe familiemedlemmene dine,» sa Alawieh i videoen.
Han fortsatte: «Partiledere som vi snakket med forsto dette. Det var tydelig at visepresident Harris forsto alvoret i situasjonen, og vi fant håp i det faktum at hun uttrykte en åpenhet for å engasjere seg.»
Den øyenbrynshevende avsløringen kom etter at Harris ble anklaget for å ha gått over Pennsylvania-guvernør Josh Shapiro, som er jødisk, som hennes valg for visepresident fordi hun ikke ønsket å krysse den progressive, anti-israelske venstresiden.
Påstandene om at hun nå er åpen for å diskutere en våpenembargo utløste raskt forargelse blant Israel-tilhengere, som sier at det bare er et bevis på at hun har trukket seg til den radikale, anti-israelske mobben.
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) tolket nyhetene som at Harris bleknet en pro-Hamas understrøm i partiet hennes.
«Kamala Harris er en Hamas-sympatisør. Hun har gjort det krystallklart at hun vil stå sammen med Hamas mens det jødiske folket nådeløst blir angrepet av Hamas-terrorister, sa hun til The Post.
Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) slo også ut mot den demokratiske presidentkandidaten.
Kamala Harris vil ikke snakke med pressen. Men hun vil snakke med pro-Hamas-radikale og foreslå at hun er åpen for en full våpenembargo mot Israel», beklaget Cotton på X.
«Å flyte en våpenembargo mot Israel til pro-Hamas-aktivister er skammelig», la tidligere utenriksminister Mike Pompeo til raseriet på nettet.
«Kamala Harris radikale politikk vil oppmuntre til flere terrorangrep mot vår allierte.»
Kongressmedlem Ritchie Torres (D-NY), men skjøt ned påstandene.
«Den Uncommitted-bevegelsen, vrangforestillinger som alltid, forestiller seg støtte der ingen eksisterer,» sa Torres til The Post.
«Visepresidentens team har gjort det klart at hun er imot en våpenembargo. En våpenembargo mot Israel – i en tid da Israel befinner seg under trussel fra Iran og dets fullmektiger på syv fronter – ville sette verdens eneste jødiske stat i fare i et øyeblikk av eksistensielt selvforsvar.»
Harris’ nasjonale sikkerhetsrådgiver, Phil Gordon, insisterte også på at Harris «alltid ville sikre at Israel er i stand til å forsvare seg mot Iran og Iran-støttede terrorgrupper.»
«Hun støtter ikke en våpenembargo mot Israel. Hun vil fortsette å jobbe for å beskytte sivile i Gaza og for å opprettholde internasjonal humanitær lov», skrev Gordon i en uttalelse X torsdag, uten å eksplisitt benekte at hun var åpen for i det minste en diskusjon om en embargo.
Onsdag snakket Harris til en folkemengde på rundt 15 000 deltakere som pakket Detroit-flyhangaren – hvor hun ble avbrutt av anti-israelske demonstranter.
«Kamala, Kamala, du kan ikke gjemme deg! Vi vil ikke stemme for folkemord», ropte demonstrantene fra en anti-Israel University of Michigan studentgruppe.
«Vet du hva, hvis du vil at Donald Trump skal vinne, så si det. Ellers snakker jeg,» skjøt Harris tilbake.
