En golfbil rigget for å simulere farene ved beruset bilkjøring gikk ut av kontroll på en politimesse i New Jersey og traff fem personer – og landet dem alle på et sykehus, sa myndighetene onsdag.
En tenåring satt bak rattet med en politimann som kjørte hagle tirsdag kveld da vognen svingte av sin spesielle oransje-kjeglebane under National Night Out-arrangementet i Wildwood på Jersey Shore, ifølge politiet.
Kjøretøyet utenfor skinnene pløyde inn i fire voksne og et barn – noe som fikk brannmenn som allerede var der til å skynde seg til unnsetning, sa Wildwood Police Department i en pressemelding.
De skadde messedeltakerne ble ført til Cooper University Hospital med skader som ikke umiddelbart ble avslørt. Tre av dem var løslatt onsdag morgen.
Golfbilturen ble bygget for å etterligne det en svekket sjåfør opplever, og har vært en nyhet på det årlige arrangementet – som har som mål å «styrke politi-samfunnspartnerskap» med spill og grub – i 20 år.
Wildwood-politiet kondolerer mennesker som ble skadet.
«Denne tragiske hendelsen er foruroligende for hele City of Wildwood Police Department, og vi ønsker å gi våre oppriktige tanker og bønner til de skadde personene,» sa avdelingen i en uttalelse.
Ulykken er under etterforskning, opplyser politiet.
