Et signaturprogram for Biden-Harris-administrasjonen for raskt å fjerne familier som har kommet inn i USA ulovlig, tillater nesten 90 % av migrantene å bli i landet, viser nye data.
Av 24 000 migranter som ble satt inn i Family Expeded Removal Program siden mai 2023, fikk mer enn 22 000 opphold i USA – og bare 2600 har blitt deportert, litt over 10 %.
Mer enn 3600 migranter har også flyktet fra programmet og antas å være uoppdaget i USA, ifølge interne data.
«Disse tallene er ytterligere bevis på at Biden-Harris-administrasjonens politikk ikke har noe å gjøre med faktisk å sikre grensen eller håndheve loven, men i stedet maskerer dens fullstendige avvisning av å gjøre noen av disse tingene,» House Homeland Security Committee-leder Mark Green (R) -Tenn.) fortalte The Post.
«En slik forferdelig grad av fjerning gjør det klart at president Biden, ‘grense-tsaren’ Kamala Harris og nå riksrettslige DHS-sekretær Alejandro Mayorkas er forpliktet til å ignorere amerikansk immigrasjonslov, mens de prøver å skjule dette faktum for det amerikanske folket. Til syvende og sist har disse personene et enkelt ansvar – arrester og fjern de som ikke har lovlig grunnlag for å forbli, la Green til.
Programmet, som ble annonsert i mai 2023, ble utpekt som en måte å innpode «konsekvenser for ulovlig innreise til USA» ved å plassere en ankelmonitor på et voksent familiemedlem.
Tanken var at migrantfamilier er vanskelige å deportere fra USA hvis de ankommer med barn, men Family Expedited Removal Program var ment å holde familier sammen mens tjenestemenn behandlet dem for «hurtig fjerning».
Men fra starten hadde den store smutthull – slik at de som var ment å bli fjernet, kunne få en screening for å avgjøre om de har en legitim grunn til å frykte å returnere til hjemlandet.
Selv om deres påstander blir avvist, har de fortsatt mulighet til å få påstanden om frykt hørt av en immigrasjonsdommer.
Biden-administrasjonen håpet at programmet ville adressere en forventet økning i migranter som krysser den sørlige grensen ulovlig etter slutten av tittel 42, utvisningspolitikken fra Trump-æraen, dagen etter at programmet ble kunngjort.
Grenseagenter har registrert møter av mer enn 800 000 migrantfamiliemedlemmer som krysser den sørlige grensen ulovlig siden mai 2023, da programmet startet, ifølge føderale data.
