Caitlin Clark kan ha trukket en dyr teknisk foul hvis ikke for noen kunnskapsrike forebygging fra lagkameratene.
I løpet av det andre kvarteret av Fevers 110-109 seier over Wings på søndag, kjørte Clark til kurven og trakk kontakt – men da fløyta gikk, var det for en offensiv foul.
Clark var apoplektisk, og da hun bjeffet mot tjenestemennene, ble hun holdt tilbake av Kelsey Mitchell og Aliyah Boston.
Clark har trukket seks tekniske feil så langt denne sesongen, og en syvende er årsak til automatisk suspensjon av WNBA.
Hvis Clark hadde blitt truffet av det tekniske, ville hun blitt tvunget til å gå glipp av Fevers siste ordinære sesongkamp, en landeveiskamp mot Mystics på torsdag.
«Vel, jeg trodde ikke de kom til å gi meg en teknisk på noe tidspunkt i kveld. Jeg ville vært veldig trist på vegne av folk i Washington DC, sa Clark til journalister etter kampen. «Jeg ville ikke gjøre det. Jeg prøvde mitt beste, men lagkameratene mine gjør en veldig god jobb med det.
Feber-hovedtrener Christie Sides tilskrev «bare gode lagkjemi-ting» for den tekniske forebyggingen av Boston og Mitchell.
«De vet alle hva som står på spill med Caitlin, og de vet at hun gjør utrolige ting,» fortsatte Sides. «Hun er bare spesiell, og disse gutta vet at det er hennes lidenskap, det er hennes ild. De vet alle når hun har nådd det punktet og når vi trenger litt hjelp for å komme ut der. Og det setter jeg pris på.»
Clark scoret karrierehøye 35 poeng i seieren på 10-for-22 feltmålsskyting, inkludert 6-for-14 fra trepoengs rekkevidde.
The Fever brakte rekorden til 20-19 på sesongen.
Indiana er nr. 6 i WNBA-sluttspillet, og er på dette tidspunktet på vei til å møte solen i åpningsrunden.
