Brian Williams, den tidligere NBC News-ankeren som ble henvist til å være vertskap for et sent kveldsprogram på søsterkabelnyhetskanalen MSNBC etter at han erkjente forfalskede påstander om rapportering under tvang under krig, er i samtaler om å være vertskap for Amazons dekning av presidentvalget i 2024.
Det Seattle-baserte e-handelsselskapet er i avanserte diskusjoner med Williams om å være vertskap for en spesiell valgkveldssending på Prime Video, ifølge The Wall Street Journal.
Williams, 65, som sluttet i Comcast-eide NBC i slutten av 2021 etter å ha forankret «The 11th Hour» på det venstre-skjevede kabeluttaket, ville forankre dekning som ville inkludere forståsegpåere og nyhetspersonligheter som analyserte dagens hendelser den kommende 5. november, Journal rapportert.
Amazons dekning av valget vil omfatte Williams som vert for sendingen fra et studio i Los Angeles som begynner så tidlig som klokken 17.00 østlig tid, ifølge rapporter.
Kilder sa til Journal at en avtale mellom Amazon og Williams kan oppnås allerede denne uken.
Kildene advarte om at Williams-avtalen ikke bør sees på som at Amazon forsøker å svinge inn i nyheter.

Williams var NBC News’ toppanker fra 2004 til 2015, da han ble suspendert for feilaktig å ha hevdet at han hadde vært i et helikopter truffet av fiendtlig ild under Irak-krigen.
En påfølgende undersøkelse fant at han hadde kommet med andre unøyaktige uttalelser om sine erfaringer med å dekke hendelser, og han mistet jobben.
Han fikk senere klokken 23.00 på MSNBC, som han gjorde om til en raskt bevegende, underholdende nyhetssending som oppsummerer dagens nyheter.
