Jane’s Addiction-frontmann Perry Farrell tar opp scenebråket med bandkameraten Dave Navarro, noe som resulterer i brå kansellering av turneen deres.
Hendelsen gikk ned på fredag under deres Boston-show, med en opphetet Farrell, 65, som kom i ansiktet til Navarro, kastet slag og måtte holdes tilbake av flere besetningsmedlemmer og bassist Eric Avery.
Farrell brøt tausheten sin på prøvelsen, og sa mandag: «Denne helgen har vært utrolig vanskelig, og etter å ha hatt tid og rom til å reflektere, er det bare riktig at jeg beklager til bandkameratene mine, spesielt Dave Navarro, fans, familie og venner for mine handlinger under fredagens show.»
Han fortsatte, «Dessverre resulterte bruddpunktet mitt i utilgivelig oppførsel, og jeg tar fullt ansvar for hvordan jeg valgte å håndtere situasjonen.»
Kilder nær situasjonen sa utelukkende til The Post at Perry «har hatt en veldig vanskelig helg med å fordøye alt som har skjedd siden fredag.»
De sa at kona hans «har vært hans klippe i over to tiår» og følte at hun «trenger å forsvare ham», og det er derfor hun la ut sin egen uttalelse på Instagram.
«Begge av dem vet at Perry førte til situasjonen på scenen, og det var hans ansvar å be om unnskyldning,» sa kilden.
Når det gjelder Perry, la innsideren til at han er «hjerteknust over handlingene sine», og la til at han må prioritere seg selv akkurat nå.
«Han innser at han ventet for lenge med å prioritere sitt velvære. Hans utmattelse og belastningen det har tatt på både hans fysiske og mentale helse har gått for langt, sier innsideren til The Post. «Han hadde de beste intensjoner på vei ut på turné med bandet og føler at han har sviktet fansen og familien.»
Rockegruppen avlyste søndagsshowet sitt i Bridgeport, Connecticut, etter kampen fredag kveld; ettervirkningene stoppet imidlertid ikke der.
På mandag avlyste Jane’s Addiction sine gjenværende turnédatoer.
«Til alle fansen, bandet har tatt den vanskelige avgjørelsen om å ta litt tid bort som en gruppe,» sa bandet i en uttalelse på Instagram-kontoen deres.
«Som sådan vil de kansellere resten av turneen,» lød meldingen, og la til at fansen vil bli refundert.
Navarro, trommeslager Stephen Perkins, begge 57, og Avery, 59, ga ut en egen uttalelse, og beskyldte Farrell for krangelen og turnéavlysningen.
«På grunn av et vedvarende oppførselsmønster og de mentale vanskene til vår sanger Perry Farrell, har vi kommet til den konklusjon at vi ikke har noe annet valg enn å avbryte den nåværende USA-turneen,» delte de.
«Vår bekymring for hans personlige helse og sikkerhet så vel som vår egen har ikke gitt oss noe alternativ. Vi håper at han vil finne den hjelpen han trenger, la de til.
«Vi beklager dypt at vi ikke klarer å komme gjennom for alle våre fans som allerede har kjøpt billetter. Vi kan ikke se noen løsning som verken vil sikre et trygt miljø på scenen eller pålitelig tillate oss å levere en god forestilling på nattlig basis.»
Farrells bandkamerater avsluttet med å dele at «hjertene er knuste».
Jane’s Addiction opptrådte i Leader Bank Pavilion i Boston fredag 13. september, da konserten brøt ut i kaos.
Mens han sang «Ocean Size», ble Farrell synlig opphisset og ropte på publikum og bandet før han tok sitt sinne ut på Navarro.
Frontmannen begynte å ramle skulderen inn i gitaristen før han slo ham. Det var da andre grep inn og fjernet Farrell fra scenen.
Bandet ga umiddelbart en unnskyldning, noe som fikk Farrells kone, Etty Lau Farrell, til å ta opp situasjonen og kaste lys over hva som førte til utbruddet hans.
Hun hevdet at han ble forverret da instrumentene begynte å overdøve stemmen hans.
Etty Lau påsto at da de tre bandmedlemmene forlot scenen, «gikk Avery opp til Perry, oppe på scenen, i mørket, bak [sound technician Dan Cleary]satte Perry i en hodelås og slo ham tre ganger i magen.»
«Perry var et galt beist den neste halvtimen – han roet seg til slutt ikke ned, men brøt sammen og gråt og gråt,» skrev hun.
Jane’s Addiction fra Los Angeles ble dannet i 1985 med Farrell, Navarro, Perkins og Avery. Det ble raskt et av de mest suksessrike alternative rockebandene på 90-tallet.
Den Grammy-nominerte gruppen hadde en første avskjedsturné i 1991. Deres 2024-turné markerte gjenforeningen av de fire opprinnelige medlemmene etter at Avery kom tilbake til bandet og Navarro kom tilbake etter en lang kamp med COVID.
Jane’s Addiction spilte 17 show før turneen avsluttet. De hadde bare 15 konserter igjen.
Det var ikke alltid spenning mellom Farrell og Navarro.
Frontmannen innrømmet å savne Navarro under gitaristens COVID-kamp.
«Jeg skulle ønske jeg hadde min kjære gitarist rundt,» sa Farrell til The Post i september 2022. «[But] Jeg lever for å bringe underholdning og kunst til verden. Og hva enn jeg kan gjøre for å underholde deg, for å blåse deg, det er det jeg lever for.»
Bandet fylte Navarros plass med flere rockestjerner, inkludert Queen of the Stone Age-gitarist Troy Van Leeuwen og Red Hot Chili Peppers-gitarist Josh Klinghoffer.
«Hvordan går du frem for å finne en gitarist som kan fylle skoene til Dave Navarro? Vi måtte fortelle folk som vi kjente, som vi elsket, og Troy passet best av alle menneskene vi vurderte, sa Farrell.
