Det israelske militæret hevder det har definitive bevis på at minst seks Al Jazeera-journalister er operative for Hamas og de palestinske islamske jihad-terrorgruppene.
De israelske forsvarsstyrkene anklaget journalistene Anas al-Sharif, Alaa Salama, Hossam Shabat, Ashraf al-Saraj, Ismail Abu Omar og Talal Aruki for å jobbe med terrorgruppene som medlemmer av deres militær- og propagandafløy.
De seks journalistene ble angivelig navngitt i Hamas-dokumenter som IDF fant ut og ble løslatt onsdag, med en oversikt over deres arbeid med terrorgruppen, opplæring, telefonnumre og lønn.
Dokumentene hevder at al-Sharif ledet en rakettoppskytingsenhet og tjenestegjorde på Hamas’ elite Nukhba-styrke i dens Nuseirat-bataljon.
Salama var angivelig medlem av den islamske jihad og jobbet som nestleder for propagandateamet i Shaboura. Saraj ble også navngitt som et islamsk jihad-medlem i Bureij.
Shabat tjente angivelig som snikskytter for Hamas’ Beit Hanoun-bataljon, og Aruki ble identifisert som en lagsjef for Hamas’ Nuseirat-enhet.
Abu Omar ble utnevnt til sjef for treningskompani i East Khan Younis-bataljonen, og han var en av Al Jazeera-ansatte som ble skadet i et israelsk luftangrep i februar mens han dekket krigen.
IDF hevder at deres arbeid med terrorgruppene og i Al Jazeera tillot dem å gå i spissen for propagandainnsats mot Israel, spesielt over de kontroversielle operasjonene nord i Gaza.
«Disse dokumentene er bevis på involveringen av Hamas-terrorister i det Qatarske medienettverket Al Jazeera,» sa IDF i en uttalelse.
Al Jazeera har på det sterkeste benektet påstandene mot sine journalister, som har holdt konstant dekning av krigen siden 7. oktober da Hamas-terrorister invaderte Israel og drepte 1200 mennesker.
Dekningen har en tendens til å være kritisk til Israels militære operasjon i den palestinske enklaven på grunn av det økende antall dødsfall og den humanitære krisen.
Israel har gjentatte ganger anklaget Al Jazeera for å tjene som talerør for Hamas og Hizbollah, i tillegg til å ha slått ned sin hovedfinansierer, Qatar, som også har blitt anklaget for å direkte finansiere den Gazasiske terrorgruppen.
Qatar fungerer som en viktig amerikansk alliert i regionen og har bidratt til å lede de stoppede våpenhvileforhandlingene mellom Israel og Hamas.
Israels anklager mot Al Jazeera har ennå ikke blitt bekreftet uavhengig.
I forrige måned gjennomførte israelske tropper et raid mot Al Jazeeras byrå på Vestbredden, og beordret kontoret til å forbli lukket i minst 45 dager.
Det fulgte etter et kontroversielt politiraid i mai på utsalgsstedets kontor i Øst-Jerusalem, der offiserer tok beslag i Al Jazeeras utstyr og blokkerte dekningen i landet, første gang Israel noen gang hadde stengt et utenlandsk nyhetsutsalg.
