Drake Hogestyn avsluttet sin tid som John Black på den langvarige såpeoperaen «Days of Our Lives» på en rørende måte.
En representant for programmet bekreftet til People på tirsdag at Hogestyn, som tragisk døde av kreft i bukspyttkjertelen i en alder av 70 på lørdag, spilte hovedrollen i sin siste episode av «Days of Our Lives» 9. september.
I episoden deler Hogestyns John noen rørende øyeblikk med barnebarnet sitt, Tate (Leo Howard), som sliter med kjærlighetsinteressen hans, Holly (Ashley Puzemis), for å finne ut hvem som var ansvarlig for farens død.
Tate forteller bestefaren at han og Holly hadde en «ganske stor kamp» da han avslørte at onkelen Eric (Greg Vaughan) var ansvarlig for farens død. Holly ble sjokkert over nyheten til tross for at Tate antok at hun allerede visste det.
John trøstet Tate med kloke ord, og foreslo at han skulle gi Holly litt «plass». Da det ikke fungerte, foreslo han at Tate skulle sende Holly en melding og fortelle henne at han tenkte på henne.
John forsikret Tate etter at han sendte teksten til Holly: «Hun vil [read it]. Og jeg er sikker på at hun vil ta deg opp på det når hun er klar.»
John tilbrakte også tid med sønnen Brady (Eric Martsolf). Mens den episoden først og fremst fokuserte på de tre generasjonene med menn, delte Hogestyn sine finalescener med sin ledende dame, Marlena (Deidre Hall), i episoden 5. september.
Hogestyn ble med i «Days of Our Lives» i 1986 som den mystiske karakteren «The Pawn» før han raskt ble en fanfavoritt som John Black. Han spilte hovedrollen i hitsåpen i 38 år og filmet over 4200 episoder.
John hadde mange elskede andre halvdeler gjennom årene, men han og Marlena vant en Soap Opera Digest Award for favorittpar i 2005.
«Det er med tunge hjerter vi kunngjør bortgangen til Drake Hogestyn,» skrev showets offisielle Instagram i en uttalelse. «Han ble kastet av livets kurveball da han ble diagnostisert med kreft i bukspyttkjertelen, men han møtte utfordringen med en utrolig styrke og besluttsomhet.»
«Etter å ha kjempet en utrolig kamp, passerte han fredelig omgitt av sine kjære. Han var den mest fantastiske ektemannen, faren, pappaen og skuespilleren. Han elsket å opptre for Days-publikummet og dele scenen med de beste rollebesetningene, mannskapet og produksjonsteamet i bransjen. Vi elsker ham, og vi vil savne ham alle våre livs dager.»
I kjølvannet av Hogestyns død hyllet hans medspillere ham på sosiale medier.
«Mitt hjerte», skrev skuespilleren Kristian Alfonso, som er mest kjent for å ha spilt Hope Williams Brady på programmet, via Instagram. “Jeg vil alltid huske deg som en kjærlig, kjærlig far, ektemann og kjære venn, men for det meste et utrolig, lidenskapelig menneske, sjenerøst og utrolig snill, alltid … Takk for kjærligheten du ga oss alle hver dag Drake på sett og av. du har alltid vært helten vår.»
«Elsker deg», konkluderte 61-åringen. «Hvil i fred. Min søte venn.»
Genie Francis, som spilte Diana Colville, skrev: «Så trist å høre om Drake Hogestyns bortgang. Så flott og snill mann. Det var en glede å jobbe med ham. Jeg har alltid elsket hvor mye han elsket sin kone og barn.»
Hogestyns medstjerne Ali Sweeney sendte også kjærligheten til henne, for å avrunde mengden av hjertelige meldinger.
«Drake var en utrolig mann. Han var morsom, sjenerøs og gjennomtenkt. Han brydde seg om hver eneste scene, hver person. Han elsket Days, fansen, og delte den lidenskapen med alle på settet», delte 48-åringen på Instagram. «Mitt hjerte knuser for familien hans, de betydde alt for ham. Han var en så stor del av livet mitt på Days. Jeg kommer til å savne ham fryktelig og verdsette hver historie, hver vits og hver klem.»
