Israelske angrep over hele Gaza drepte 19 mennesker over natten, inkludert en kvinne og hennes seks barn, da USAs utenriksminister Antony Blinken søndag dro til regionen for å prøve å forsegle en våpenhvileavtale etter måneder med omstridte forhandlinger.
USA og andre meklere Egypt og Qatar så ut til å nærme seg en avtale etter to dager med samtaler i Doha, med amerikanske og israelske tjenestemenn som uttrykte forsiktig optimisme.
Men Hamas har signalisert motstand mot det de sier er nye krav fra Israel, og de langvarige samtalene har gjentatte ganger stoppet opp.
Det utviklende forslaget krever en trefaseprosess der Hamas vil løslate alle gisler som ble bortført under angrepet 7. oktober, som utløste den dødeligste krigen som noen gang er utkjempet mellom israelere og palestinere.
I bytte ville Israel trekke sine styrker tilbake fra Gaza og løslate palestinske fanger.
Meklerne håper å få slutt på en krig som har drept over 40 000 palestinere, ifølge lokale helsemyndigheter, fordrevet det store flertallet av territoriets 2,3 millioner innbyggere og forårsaket en humanitær katastrofe.
Eksperter har advart om hungersnød og utbrudd av sykdommer som polio.
Hamas-ledede terrorister drepte rundt 1200 mennesker, hovedsakelig sivile, i angrepet 7. oktober og bortførte rundt 250.
Av disse antas det fortsatt å være rundt 110 inne i Gaza, og israelske myndigheter sier at rundt en tredjedel er omkommet.
Mer enn 100 gisler ble løslatt i november under en ukes lang våpenhvile.
Det siste israelske bombardementet inkluderte et angrep tidlig søndag på et hjem i den sentrale byen Deir al-Balah som drepte en kvinne og hennes seks barn, ifølge Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. En Associated Press-reporter ved sykehuset talte likene.
Mohammed Awad Khatab, barnas bestefar, sa at datteren hans, en skolelærer, var sammen med mannen sin og deres seks barn da huset deres ble rammet.
Han sa at barna var i alderen fra 18 måneder til 15 år, og at fire av dem var firlinger.
Han sa at faren ble innlagt på sykehus etter streiken.
«De seks barna har blitt kroppsdeler. De ble plassert i en enkelt pose, sa han til journalister utenfor sykehuset. «Hva gjorde de? Drepte de noen av jødene? … Vil dette gi sikkerhet til Israel?
En streik i den nordlige byen Jabaliya rammet to leiligheter i en boligbygning, og drepte to menn, en kvinne og hennes datter, ifølge Gazas helsedepartement.
En annen streik sentralt i Gaza drepte fire mennesker, ifølge Awda Hospital.
Sent lørdag drepte en streik nær den sørlige byen Khan Younis fire personer fra samme familie, inkludert to kvinner, ifølge Nasser Hospital.
Israel sier at de kun retter seg mot terrorister og legger skylden på sivile dødsfall på Hamas fordi terrorgruppen skjuler krigere, våpen, tunneler og raketter i boligområder.
Men det månederlange israelske bombardementet har utslettet hele storfamilier og gjort tusenvis av barn foreldreløse.
Meklerne har brukt måneder på å prøve å stanse kampene, innsats som fikk ny press etter det målrettede drap på to toppterrorister forrige måned, begge tilskrevet Israel, brakte hevnløfter fra Iran og den libanesiske Hizbollah, noe som vekket frykt for en total krig over Midtøsten.
En amerikansk tjenestemann sa fredag at meklere begynte forberedelsene til å implementere det siste våpenhvile-forslaget, og Israels statsminister Benjamin Netanyahus kontor uttrykte «forsiktig optimisme» at en avtale kunne oppnås.
En israelsk delegasjon skal reise til Kairo på søndag for videre samtaler, og Blinken forventes å møte Netanyahu på mandag.
Hamas har sådd tvil om en avtale er nær, og sa at det siste forslaget skilte seg betydelig fra en tidligere iterasjon de i prinsippet hadde akseptert.
Hamas har avvist Israels krav om en varig militær tilstedeværelse langs Gaza-Egypt grensen og en linje som deler Gaza der israelske styrker vil ransake palestinere som returnerer til sine hjem.
Israel sier at begge er nødvendige for å hindre terrorister i å oppruste og returnere til nord.
Israel viste fleksibilitet ved å trekke seg tilbake fra grensekorridoren, og et møte mellom egyptiske og israelske militærtjenestemenn var planlagt til neste uke for å bli enige om en tilbaketrekningsmekanisme, ifølge to egyptiske tjenestemenn, som snakket på betingelse av anonymitet fordi de ikke var autorisert til å diskutere de private forhandlingene.
