Marcus Morris Sr. er en Knick igjen.
Laget kunngjorde at Morris signerte en Exhibit 9-kontrakt søndag, som bringer veteranen tilbake til byen hvor han spilte 43 kamper i løpet av sesongen 2019-20.
En Exhibit 9-kontrakt er imidlertid en ikke-garantert ettårig avtale som beskytter laget i tilfelle en betydelig skade på spilleren.
Dette var nok et dybdetrekk for Knicks, som også signerte Landry Shamet på en Exhibit 9-kontrakt som en annen vakt for å konkurrere om en plass på vaktlisten og adressere et behovsområde som ble avslørt under deres ettersesongen i fjor.
De to vil sannsynligvis kjempe om den endelige plassen, med det meste av vaktlisten – og toppplassene i rotasjonen – allerede satt med Knicks’ tilbakevendende kjerne.
Morris, en 13-årig veteran, hadde i gjennomsnitt 19,6 poeng, 5,4 returer og 1,4 assists i sin første runde med Knicks.
Han samlet minst 20 poeng 25 ganger i løpet av sitt opphold med laget, inkludert en sesongbeste 38 under et tap 5. januar for Clippers.
Etter 43 kamper byttet Knicks Philadelphia-innfødte i en trelagsavtale med Wizards, og han endte opp i Los Angeles.
35-åringen delte 49 kamper mellom 76ers og Cavaliers forrige sesong, med et gjennomsnitt på 6,4 poeng.
Han var opprinnelig et førsterundevalg i 2011-draften, og han har også spilt for Rockets, Suns, Pistons og Celtics før han signerte som en gratis agent med Knicks foran sesongen 2019-20.
I juli rapporterte Philadelphia Inquirer at 76-erne var interessert i å bringe tilbake Morris etter at de fikk Paul George – Morris’ tidligere lagkamerat med Clippers – på en fire-årig, maks 212 millioner dollar-avtale i free agency.
