Mens newyorkere er satt til å få en liten pause fra varmen og fuktigheten i løpet av de neste dagene, vil skiven snu opp vestover, hvor en dager lang strekning med høye temperaturer vil utfordre rekorder over hele regionen, inkludert potensialet for et nytt høydepunkt på «det varmeste stedet på jorden».
«De neste par dagene i New York kommer til å være et par grader over gjennomsnittet, men det kommer til å bli ingenting sammenlignet med de rekordraskende temperaturene som pågår vestover,» sa AccuWeather-prognosen Alex DaSilva til The Post.
Fredag ble rekordhøye temperaturer på 123 grader brutt i Palm Springs, California, som toppet det gamle merket med 1 grad. Samme dag knuste rekorden i Death Valley det forrige høydepunktet for dagen med 5 grader, med kvikksølv som klatret til 127.
«Disse forholdene vil være ekstremt farlige og potensielt dødelige hvis de ikke tas på alvor,» advarte National Weather Service.
I den kommende uken kan Las Vegas slå eller bryte all-time varmerekorden på 117 grader i seks dager på rad, ifølge Fox Weather-meteorolog Cody Braud.
«Vegas flørter rundt å slå rekorder hver dag frem til fredag,» forklarte han.
Og det som skjer i Vegas vil ikke bli i Vegas.
Seattle vil oppleve rekordutfordrende temperaturer i begynnelsen av uken, varmen vil være farlig der og i andre deler av vestlige Washington hvor mange ikke har klimaanlegg.
Rekordhøyder over deler av Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington og til og med Idaho vil toppe 100 grader med noen steder i Desert Southwest som stiger over 115, ifølge meteorologer.
Og i Death Valley, California, som har rekorden for den varmeste temperaturen som noen gang er registrert på 134,1 grader i 1913, forventes temperaturene å ligge nær 130 grader søndag til onsdag, viser National Weather Service-prognoser. «Ja, Mojave-ørkenen blir varm,» skrev det regionale NWS-kontoret i Las Vegas på X. «Men denne varmen vil bli rekordstor.»
Varmekuppelen vil lette i slutten av uken, men den er på vei østover. Inntil da ser Big Apple på temperaturer på midten til lav 80-tallet, med regn som periodisk bryter gjennom fuktigheten.
