Dusinvis av leveringssykler parkert utenfor The Roosevelt Hotel har blitt ryddet bort av NYPD som en del av et intensivert angrep på uregistrerte og ulovlige mopeder og e-sykler over hele byen, har The Post fått vite.
Det landemerkehotellet i Midtown nær Grand Central Terminal, som ble omgjort i fjor til et krisesenter for migranter, ble også et høyprofilert hotspot for ulovlige sykler i fjor høst.
I løpet av de siste månedene har en stygg mengde parkerte sykler rutinemessig konfrontert fotgjengere på East 46th Street langs blokken som strekker seg mellom Madison og Vanderbilt Avenues.
De parkerte syklene – som etter ett estimat kan telle så mange som 75 til enhver tid – hadde for det meste blitt brukt til matleveringer, men de var enten ikke registrert i byen eller ulovlig parkert, ifølge en talsperson for NYPD.
«Det har vært mange operasjoner over tid for å fjerne ulovlige, uregistrerte eller feil lagrede mopeder/sykler/osv. på dette stedet,» sa NYPDs visekommissær for offentlig informasjon i en uttalelse.
DCPI avslørte ikke når den fjernet syklene foran hotellet, men lokale bedrifter sa at det var i løpet av de siste ukene.
Det ikoniske Roosevelt Hotel har blitt et symbol på byens kamp for å håndtere en massiv tilstrømning av migranter, hvorav mange jobber som leveringsarbeidere.
Byen trapper opp innsatsen for å slå ned på sikkerhetsspørsmål knyttet til motoriserte sykler – som resulterte i 97 branner i fjor – et spørsmål som ble tatt opp under en byrådshøring på fredag om syv forslag til lovforslag for å regulere leveringsselskaper for matapper.
Flere av de foreslåtte lovene vil gjøre appselskapene – inkludert Grubhub, Doordash og Uber Eats – ansvarlige for mopedregistreringer og for å ta ansvar når arbeiderne deres er involvert i ulykker.
Hver for seg er NYPD stadig mer fokusert på hvordan motoriserte sykler brukes til å begå forbrytelser.
Tidligere denne måneden beslagla NYPD-tjenestemenn rundt 39 mopeder i Midtown og utstedte 40 stevninger med henvisning til en økning i snatch-and-run-forbrytelser der motoriserte scootere og mopeder ble brukt som fluktkjøretøy, rapporterte The Post.
NYPD-statistikk viser at av de syv store forbrytelsene ble scootere, motorsykler eller mopeder brukt som fluktkjøretøy 790 ganger så langt i år, opp fra bare 156 i samme periode i 2022.
Lokale virksomheter i nærheten av eller ved siden av Roosevelt Hotel har klaget over at virksomhetene deres har lidd siden eiendommen ble omgjort til et krisesenter.
Grand Central Partnership, som representerer virksomheter i området rundt, hadde ingen kjennskap til NYPDs feie av sykler på hotellet, sa Fred Cerullo, president for Business Improvement District, til The Post.
«Vi støtter ordføreren og NYPD i alle forsøk på å eliminere [unregistered motorized bikes] fra gatene og fortauene våre,» sa Cerulla. «Det har absolutt lindret noe av kaoset som hadde hersket over fotgjengeropplevelsen her i Midtown East.»
