Orioles ble tildelt et slag for startrotasjonen etter sesongen på onsdag.
Starteren Grayson Rodriguez ble stengt for resten av den ordinære sesongen og for ettersesongen, fortalte manager Brandon Hyde til journalister på Yankee Stadium i forkant av den andre kampen i en serie med tre kamper med Bronx Bombers.
Rodriguez har vært på skadelisten siden 7. august etter at han pådro seg en skade i høyre lat/teres-muskel dagen før mens han varmet opp før en kamp mot Blue Jays.
Den 24 år gamle høyrehenderen hadde kastet flere bullpen-økter, men han kom ikke videre på en måte som ville ha gjort ham tilgjengelig for sluttspillet, rapporterte Baltimore Sun.
«Vi kommer dessverre til å stenge ham,» sa Hyde. «Han kommer til å gå glipp av sluttspillet. Vi skal gjøre ham klar for 2025. Gikk akkurat tom for tid med ham og det er skuffende og tøft, men han er så talentfull og en stor del av rotasjonen vår i år og fremover. Så vi gikk tom for tid med ham.»
Rodriguez hadde brukt tid på skadelisten tidligere denne sesongen da han hadde å gjøre med betennelse i høyre skulder i april og mai.
Nå som han offisielt er stengt, avslutter 24-åringen 2024-kampanjen med en rekord på 13-4 og 3,86 ERA i 116⅔ omganger.
«Det var ikke et tilbakeslag,» sa Hyde om skaden. «Det er vanligvis en skade som tar litt tid, og å få ham tilbake til sluttspillet kom til å være litt travelt, og vi følte bare for helsen hans, for fremtiden hans, det er den rette tingen å gjøre.»
Orioles har fire kamper igjen på timeplanen etter onsdagens kamp på Yankee Stadium før sluttspillet begynner.
Pitcherne John Means, Tyler Wells og Kyle Bradish har også vært på sidelinjen for sesongen på grunn av skader.
