Et politisimuleringsvideospill som nylig ble utgitt for Sonys PlayStation-konsoll bryter varemerker som eies av byene New York og Los Angeles, bekreftet The Post.
Siden 23. mai har «Cop Officers: Police Simulator of NYPD City» vært tilgjengelig for $14,99 gjennom PlayStation Store, hvor den har en uhyggelig 1,63 av 5 vurdering. PS4-spillet oppfordrer spillere til å «gå inn i skoene til en NYPD-offiser og sette din besluttsomhet og profesjonalitet på prøve i forskjellige situasjoner.»
Imidlertid krenker spillet New York Citys langvarige varemerke på «NYPD», så vel som Los Angeles bysegl og LAPDs berømte «To Protect and to Serve»-slagord, begge varemerke, sa tjenestemenn i begge byer.
En talsperson for rådhuset sa til The Post: «Vi ser på saken.»
En talsmann for Los Angeles sa at byens advokater sannsynligvis ville svare med opphør-og-avstå-brev til Sony.
Spillets utvikler og utgiver, Pakistan-baserte GameToTop Corporation LTD, kunne ikke nås for kommentar.
For å starte spillet velger spillerne sin egen politimannkarakter, inkludert et alternativ for overvektig politimann.
Du blir deretter sendt ut på gatene for å stoppe og frisk fotgjengere, skrive parkeringsbøter og slå frekke lovbrytere, som, når de er satt i håndjern, med vilje følger deg tilbake til politistasjonen for bestilling. Politikarakteren din kan til og med gå ut på patrulje ved hjelp av en Segway.
Inne på politistasjonen dukker LAPD-slagordet faktisk opp i virtuelle rammer hengt på de pikselerte veggene. Spillet utspiller seg innenfor rammen av et åpent, generisk bybilde som verken minner om New York eller Los Angeles.
Spillet er slurvete designet, med grafikk i tiende klasse og kontraintuitive kontroller. «Cop Officers: Police Simulator of NYPD City» kan også skryte av noe av det mest skumle spillingen man kan tenke seg.
Byen har måttet svare på varemerkebrudd tidligere.
Etter 9/11 begynte FDNY- og NYPD-varer å oversvømme det grå markedet, og byen måtte forfølge rettslige skritt for å beskytte varemerkene sine.
I 2002 ble en mann arrestert for å fortsette å selge NYPD-merker på eBay, selv etter at byen advarte ham mot å gjøre det.
