En russisk dataprogrammerer som ble kortvarig berømmelse for sin likhet med skuespilleren Leonardo DiCaprio har blitt sendt til kamp i Ukraina fordi han pakket på for mange pund og ikke jobbet lenger, ifølge en rapport i russiske medier.
Roman Burtzev, 41, fra Moskva, gikk viralt i 2016 etter å ha lagt ut bildet sitt på et datingnettsted, da han ble stemplet med navnet med blandet kompliment, «den russiske fete versjonen av Leonardo DiCaprio» på grunn av hans likhet med Oscar-vinneren — mest åpenbart hans gjennomtrengende blå øyne.
Snart var det catch-me-if-you-can for modellbyråer, som fridde til den daværende 33-åringen for fotoshoots som krevde en Leo-lookalike, til tross for at han var åtte år yngre – og nesten 100 pund tyngre – enn «Titanic»-stjerne.
Burtzev tjente et anstendig levebrød ved å lene seg inn i likheten, og sluttet til slutt med programmeringsjobben for å prøve å etterligne skuespilleren på heltid.
Så i 2020 slo COVID-19 til, og etterspørselen etter Leo-utseendet hans sank raskere enn en havforing som traff et isfjell. Kort tid etter hadde Burtzev uhøytidelig forlatt sin modellkarriere.
Blak og bodde i en liten leilighet med foreldrene sine, den tidligere kjendisdoppelgjengeren skal ha gått enda mer i vekt, sa han til The Mirror i et intervju fra 2021.
Med sin ballongomkrets som satte en stopper for Leo-liknelsen, jobbet Burtzev en håndfull strøjobber før han ble trukket til å kjempe i Ukraina.
Han ble delvis lokket av en bonus på nesten 21.000 dollar for å ha fullført opplæring og en lønn på rundt 2.100 dollar per måned, ifølge det russiske nyhetsbyrået Gazeta.
