Hollywood-stuntmannen Bob Yerkes, mest kjent for sitt arbeid i «Star Wars» og «Back to the Future», er død i en alder av 92.
Yerkes, hvis sølvskjermkarriere strakte seg over 70 år, var en stuntdobbel for noen av de største stjernene i filmindustrien, inkludert Paul Newman, Robert Duval og Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Hans død ble annonsert av andre stuntutøver Darlene Ava Williams, som delte nyheten på sosiale medier torsdag.
«Jeg er fryktelig trist å høre at min mentor og stunt-trener Bob Yerkes døde i morges i Northridge, California,» skrev hun på Facebook.
«Bobby åpnet døren til hjemmet sitt og bakgården for alle som enten trengte et sted å bo eller trene seg til en jobb.»
I «Back to the Future» fungerte Yerkes som en stuntdobbel for Christopher Lloyd i den ikoniske scenen som så ham gli ned en klokketårnkabel i kultfavoritten fra 1985.
I «Star Wars» fløy stuntmannen som den intergalaktiske dusørjegeren Boba Fett i filmen «Return of the Jedi» fra 1983. Stuntet ble filmet i bakgården hans.
«Bobby kjente foreldrene mine før jeg ble født og kjente meg som barn som vokste opp i sirkuset,» fortsatte Williams i sin hyllest.
«På et tidspunkt, lenge før meg, opptrådte faren min og Bob i en flygende trapes sammen på sirkuset. Som barn husker jeg at jeg besøkte bakgården hans. Jeg husker at jeg så ham trene kjendiser og stunt folk.»
Hun la til at Yerkes alltid ville vurdere henne for stuntjobber når de dukket opp, selv før hun dedikerte karrieren til å være en stuntkvinne.
«Jeg ville ikke hatt en karriere i stunts uten Bob Yerkes,» fortsatte hun. «Jeg er så takknemlig for at vi fikk feire Bob Yerkes introduksjon til Circus Ring of Fame i år for årets trener.»
«Jeg er så glad for at vi også fikk feire hans 92-årsdag med ham her i Sarasota,» la hun til. «Det vil aldri være en Bob Yerkes! Hjertet mitt er knust. Jeg er stolt og beæret over å ha kjent ham. Han var en sann legende!»
Yerkes fikk sine striper som en av Hollywoods mest suksessrike stuntdobler i løpet av sin glitrende karriere.
Han var en Hall of Fame-innsatt og mottok en livstidspris fra World Acrobatic Society.
Yerkes, som opprinnelig var sirkusartist, startet i Hollywood i 1948 da han fikk en stuntdobbelrolle i filmen «Julia Misbehaves».
I tillegg til arbeidet som stuntdobbel, lærte Yerkes ferdighetene sine til mange kjendiser i bransjen, inkludert Brooke Shields og Todd Bridges
Yerkes doblet også som Schwarzenegger i filmen «Commando» fra 1985, samt Eli Wallach i «Tough Guys» året etter.
Til tross for at han var en dyktig trapes-lufter og tightrope-rullator, tålte Yerkes en rekke smertefulle skader i løpet av karrieren, inkludert å brekke begge bena under innspillingen av «Breakout» i 1975.
Han brakk også bena mens han filmet «Who Framed Roger Rabbit» og «Her Alibi».
Hans andre studiepoeng inkluderer «Engler og demoner», «Adaptation», «Ferris Buellers fridag», «Psycho III», «Ghostbusters» og «Poltergeist».
Senest dukket Yerkes opp i «Killing Hasselhoff» i 2017 og «Water for Elephants» i 2011.
Han etterlater seg sønnen Mark, som også er en stuntman. Yerkes andre sønn, Gerald, døde mens han tjenestegjorde i Vietnamkrigen.
