Starbucks kunngjorde tirsdag at de vil erstatte nåværende administrerende direktør Laxman Narasimhan med Chipotle-leder Brian Niccol etter måneder med nedgang i salget, ifølge rapporter.
Selskapet sa at Niccol – som har fått mye ros for en snuoperasjon i Chipotle som har økt burrito-kjedens aksjer med mer enn 50 % i løpet av det siste året – vil overta ledende posisjon 9. september, ifølge The Wall Street Journal.
Den plutselige endringen i lederskap følger et aksjefall på 20 % for Starbucks siden Narasimhan tok styringen av selskapet for halvannet år siden, etterfulgt av tidligere administrerende direktør Howard Schultz.
Schultz, som bygde kjeden til en global storhet på 1990-tallet, slengte Narasimhans ledelsesstil på LinkedIn i mai.
«Etter å ha fulgt Brians lederskaps- og transformasjonsreise på Chipotle, har jeg lenge beundret hans lederskapseffekt,» sa Schultz om Niccol i en uttalelse. «Hans fortreffelighet i detaljhandelen og merittliste i å levere ekstraordinære aksjonærverdier anerkjenner det kritiske menneskelige elementet som kreves for å lede en kultur- og verdidrevet bedrift.
«Jeg tror han er lederen Starbucks trenger på et sentralt tidspunkt i historien. Han har min respekt og fulle støtte.»
Starbucks har implementert endringer i tjenesteprotokollene sine mens de prøver å berolige de aktivistiske investorfirmaene Elliott Investment Management og Starboard.
Narasimhan vil trekke seg fra sine administrerende direktør og styrelederstillinger umiddelbart, heter det i rapporten.
Mellody Hobson – selskapets administrerende styreleder siden 2021 – vil bli den ledende uavhengige direktøren.
