Bedriftsleder Susan Wojcicki, som fungerte som YouTubes administrerende direktør i ni år, døde 56 år gammel fredag, ifølge familien hennes.
Hun hadde levd med ikke-småcellet lungekreft de siste to årene.
«Det er med dyp sorg jeg deler nyheten om at Susan Wojcicki går bort,» sa Wojcickis ektemann Dennis Troper på Facebook. «Susan var ikke bare min beste venn og partner i livet, men et strålende sinn, en kjærlig mor og en kjær venn for mange.
«Hennes innvirkning på familien vår og verden var umålelig. Vi er knuste, men takknemlige for tiden vi fikk med henne. Vær så snill å ha familien vår i tankene dine mens vi navigerer i denne vanskelige tiden.»
Wojcicki og Troper giftet seg i 1998 og deler fem barn.
I februar ble Wojcickis sønn Marco Troper funnet død inne på et sovesal ved University of California, Berkeley.
Hun ble utnevnt til administrerende direktør for YouTube i 2014 og kåret til en av Time Magazines 100 mest innflytelsesrike personer året etter.
Wojcicki trakk seg fra stillingen sin – etter 25 år i selskapet – i februar 2023 for å «starte et nytt kapittel med fokus på min familie, helse og personlige prosjekter».
Google-sjef Sundar Pichai husket Wojcicki som en «utrolig leder» som spilte en avgjørende rolle i selskapets suksess.
«Utrolig trist over tapet av min kjære venn (Susan Wojcicki) etter to år med kreft,» sa Pichai i en uttalelse på X. «Hun er like kjernen i Googles historie som noen andre, og det er vanskelig å forestille seg verden uten henne.
«Hun var en utrolig person, leder og venn som hadde en enorm innvirkning på verden, og jeg er en av utallige Googlere som er bedre til å kjenne henne. Vi kommer til å savne henne veldig.»
