Kunstig intelligens kan gjøre mange jobber som kasserere og sjåfører foreldet – noe som fører til utbredt sosial uro, ifølge en senior finansdirektør i Wall Street.
Armen Panossian, en co-CEO i det Los Angeles-baserte investeringsselskapet Oaktree Capital Management, sa til Bloomberg News at AI utgjør «den største risikoen» fordi selv om den «klart har potensialet for svært store økonomiske gevinster», vil den også ha « samfunnsmessige konsekvenser.»
«Millioner av mennesker kan stå uten jobb. Så hvem skal omskolere disse menneskene?» Panossian fortalte Bloomberg News.
«Hvis vi ikke finner ut av det, kan det bli sosial uro.»
Panossian sa at å fortsette å ignorere risikoen vil resultere i «en regning å betale med hensyn til sysselsetting og med hensyn til folk som er avhengige av lønnsslipp-til-lønnsslipp-jobber, som vil finne seg utrent og ikke klare for den nye økonomien.»
«Og vi vil bli tvunget som et samfunn til enten å ha sosial uro eller ha en velferdsstat,» la han til.
Følelsene hans gjenspeiler alvorlige spådommer som ble inkludert i rapporter og studier utarbeidet av akademikere og eksperter som forsøkte å måle virkningen av AI på det fremtidige arbeidsmarkedet.
I fjor advarte Goldman Sachs om generativ kunstig intelligens – som er trent på forskjellige sett med data for å lære mønstergjenkjenning – kan påvirke så mange som 300 millioner heltidsjobber globalt.
I 2020 publiserte World Economic Forum en studie som sa at kunstig intelligens, automasjon og andre teknologier kan føre til at så mange som 85 millioner jobber på verdensbasis innen 2025 fortrenges.
En rapport fra 2017 fra konsulentfirmaet McKinsey anslo at opptil 800 millioner jobber over hele verden kan automatiseres innen 2030 – noe som resulterer i et sted mellom 400 millioner og 800 millioner mennesker som enten trenger å bytte jobb eller tilegne seg nye ferdigheter.
«Risikoen er at hvis vi ikke gjør noe med det nå for å omskolere noen av disse menneskene eller forberede oss på et ansettelseslandskap etter AI, vil vi få problemer med et dypere skille mellom de som har og ikke har, de velstående og lønnsslipp-til-lønnsslipp-folkene,» sa Panossian.
«Og det vil bety betydelig skade for mange mennesker som ikke forventer at det kommer deres vei.»
Han advarte også investorer som for tiden er positive til AI-aksjer om at disse eiendelene kan være overvurdert og at markedet kan være full av spekulasjoner – sammenlignet med dot-com-boblen på slutten av 1990-tallet og begynnelsen av 2000-tallet.
Panossian sa at selv om «gevinstene er klare når det gjelder potensialet deres, er tidspunktet for dem umulig.»
«Og hvis den timingen tar mye lengre tid enn investorer forventer, vil jeg forvente å se en ganske voldsom tilbakestilling av verdivurderinger og potensielt noen tap for investorer underveis.»
Panossian advarte investorer «om ikke å komme over skiene våre og bli for overeksponert eller for konsentrert til AI fordi vi husker hvordan det var da den fiberoptiske boomen skjedde.»
