Selskapets aksjer stengte på 51 cent, ned 57%.
Grunnlagt i 1946 av kjemikeren Earl Tupper, eksploderte selskapets popularitet på 1950-tallet da kvinner fra etterkrigsgenerasjonen holdt «Tupperware-fester» hjemme for å selge matlagringsbeholdere mens de søkte myndighet og uavhengighet.
Covid-19-pandemien ga et løft i salget fra familier som skjermet hjemme, lagde mer mat og produserte mye matrester. Salget har gått ned de siste kvartalene ettersom verden åpnet seg igjen.
Tupperware planlegger å gå inn i rettsbeskyttelse etter at de brøt vilkårene for gjelden og vervet juridiske og økonomiske rådgivere, rapporterte Bloomberg News mandag.
Konkursforberedelsene følger langvarige forhandlinger mellom Tupperware og dets långivere om hvordan de skal administrere mer enn 700 millioner dollar i gjeld, ifølge rapporten.
Tupperware svarte ikke umiddelbart på en Reuters-forespørsel om kommentar.
I mars advarte selskapet om at det ikke var sikkert at virksomheten kunne fortsette som en fortsatt drift, og sto overfor en likviditetskrise.
