Victor Wembanyama hadde et sterkt budskap etter at Frankrike falt for USA i gullspillet i OL i 2024 søndag.
Det franske basketballfenomet og Spurts-stjernen fortalte Mike Finger til San Antonio Express-News at han var «bekymret» for andre lag i løpet av de neste par årene.
«Jeg lærer, og jeg er bekymret for motstanderne om et par år,» sa Wembanyama.
Da Finger spurte om han snakket om NBA eller FIBA, svarte Wembanyama enkelt:
«overalt.»
Wembanyama, 20, ble garantert tent etter at den franske kontingenten falt til sine amerikanske kolleger for andre OL på rad i gullmedaljespillet, tvunget til å ta imot sølvet til tross for at USA fikk løpe for pengene.
NBAs Rookie of the Year forrige sesong hadde en imponerende oppvisning i gullmedaljekampen for Frankrike, som satte 26 poeng og dro ned syv returer mens de la til to assist.
Han hadde i gjennomsnitt 15,8 poeng per kamp under OL og hadde 9,3 returer og 3,3 assists i løpet av de seks kampene han spilte i løpet av sommerkampene.
USA har vært en dominerende kraft i OL siden NBA-spillere begynte å konkurrere i lekene i 1992, og amerikanerne har ikke klart å vinne gull bare én gang i løpet av denne perioden.
Det ene tapet kom i 2004 under de olympiske leker i Athen.
Men Frankrike har utviklet seg til å bli en stigende spiller på den internasjonale scenen med Wembanyama som forventes å spille en enda større rolle i 2028 når OL kommer til Los Angeles.
Franskmennene kan også skryte av første og andre sammenlagtvalg fra årets NBA-draft, henholdsvis Zaccharie Risacher og Alex Sarr, og vil være et godt sted å kjempe om gull igjen om fire år.
Wembanyama spilte i sin første NBA-sesong i 2023-24, hvor han hadde et gjennomsnitt på 21,4 poeng og registrerte 10,6 returer, mens han skjøt 46,5 prosent fra banen.
