White Sox-eier Jerry Reinsdorf sa at organisasjonen er «ekstremt ulykkelig» over lagets historisk dårlige sesong i en uttalelse som sannsynligvis ikke vil dempe lagets fans sinne over den pinlige kampanjen i 2024.
Ballklubben droppet sin 114. kamp for sesongen onsdag i et 6-4-tap mot Guardians da White Sox nærmet seg å overgå 1962 Mets’ moderne (siden 1900) MLB-rekord på 120 tap.
De er i ferd med å tape 126 kamper i år.
«Alle i denne organisasjonen er ekstremt misfornøyde med resultatene av denne sesongen, det sier seg selv,» sa Reinsdorf i en uttalelse til flere medier onsdag. «Dette året har vært veldig smertefullt for alle, spesielt våre fans. Vi kom ikke hit over natten, og løsninger vil heller ikke skje over natten.»
White Sox gjorde en endring i managerposisjonen i løpet av sesongen ved å sparke Pedro Grifol og gjøre Grady Sizemore til midlertidig manager, selv om han ikke har klart seg mye bedre.
Sizemore har ledet White Sox til en rekord på 5-25 siden han tok over jobben.
«Når vi går tilbake til fjoråret, har vi tatt vanskelige beslutninger og endringer for å begynne å bygge et grunnlag for fremtidig suksess,» la Reinsdorf til. «Det som har imponert meg er hvordan spillerne og staben våre har fortsatt å jobbe og bringe en profesjonell holdning til ballparken hver dag til tross for en historisk vanskelig sesong. Ingen er fornøyd med resultatene, men jeg berømmer den fortsatte innsatsen.»
White Sox-eieren lovet å ha mer å si når sesongen var over.
Chicago må gå 9-6 gjennom sine siste 15 kamper for å unngå Mets’ rekord.
De møter friidretten, englene to ganger, Padres og Tigers for å avslutte året.
White Sox har tapt tre kamper på rad, men klarte å ta en kamp mot Red Sox sist søndag.
